D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its fifth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the twelveth Team of the Week of the 2016 season.

Games of April 25 - May 1, 2016

C  Nicholas LoPrinzi, Jr., St. Joseph's (Brooklyn)

LoPrinzi drove in a team-best three RBIs, scored twice and finished 3-for-6 (.500). He lifted his fourth home run of the season in game one of a doubleheader with Mount St. Mary. LoPrinzi didn't allow a stolen base catching the only runner attempting to steal.

1B  Seth Douglas, Jr., SUNY Canton

Douglas had a monster week hitting hitting 14-for-21 from the plate (.667) lead the Roos to a 4-1 week and back into the thick of playoff contention with a 2-0 weekend v. Elmira College. The junior set the program records for single season home runs (8) and career home runs (11) as he finished the week with 14 RBIs, two home runs, two doubles and two triples to go with a 1.238 slugging percentage.

2B  Brian Killinger, Jr., Adrian

Killinger produced an impressive .750/.778/1.125 slashline from the No. 9 spot in the lineup, hitting 300 points more than the next Adrian starter during the week as the Bulldogs inched closer to another MIAA title with three wins against contender Trine. Killinger also was perfect defensively in 12 total chances.

SS  Michael Wielansky, Fr., Wooster

Wielansky had an extra-base hit in six of seven games while slugging an even 1.000 for the week. He went 12-for-28 overall (.429) with three doubles, two triples, and three home runs while driving in 13 runs and scoring eight runs.

3B  Joe Killian, Sr., Allegheny

Killian became the second player in program history to reach the 200-hit plateau in Allegheny's 19-17 win over Mount Union on Wednesday. He batted .500 (7-for-14) on the week, with seven RBIs and six runs score. Killian hit two doubles and a home run to record a .857 slugging percentage.

OF  Justin Cassinelli, Sr., Susquehanna

Cassinelli hit for the cycle in Sunday's 13-3 win over Elizabethtown to cap off a week in which he hit for a .625 batting average with 10 hits, nine runs scored and 10 RBIs. He had two doubles, one triple and four homers for a 1.625 slugging percentage and a .650 on-base percentage.

OF  Zack Stacey, Fr., Southern Vt.

Stacey had a monster week for Southern Vermont, helping the Mountaineers reach 20 wins for the first time in history. In his five games on the week, the rookie went 13-for-22, hitting .591 while slugging 1.273. He also stole three bases and was perfect through 11 defensive chances in center while working three walks for a .654 on-base percentage.

OF  Will Welsh, Fr., Lancaster Bible

Welsh had an unbelievable week for the Chargers as he was 12-for-16 (.750) with six of his 12 hits were for extra bases, including three home runs. Welsh knocked in 10 runs and scored eight runs.

DH  Jimmy Jauregui, Jr., Cal Lutheran

Jauregui was a a double shy of the cycle in a 19-6 rout of Pomona-Pitzer after going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored while blasting a two-run homerun in the third inning. For the week he accumulated 8 hits in 13 at bats (.615), four runs, and six RBIs to help CLU go 3-0.

SP  Tyler Duff, Jr., Williams

Duff came within one hit from achieving a perfect game against Hamilton on Saturday. In a must-win situation, Duff allowed a lead-off single in the first, then retired 21 straight batters to finish with a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory. He did not walk or hit a batter, and struck out six Continentals.  

SP  Lane Hobbs, Jr., Concordia Texas

Hobbs went the distance in Saturday's 9-0 win over UMHB. He struck out five and allowed just two hits with no walks in the shutout.

SP  Chad Johnstone, Fr., New York University

Johnstone pitched seven shutout innings in NYU's 9-0 win over CCNY on Friday. He allowed only one hit and a walk, while carrying a perfect game into the sixth inning. He struck out seven and now has a team leading three wins.

RP  Christian Cok, So., Randolph-Macon

Cok recorded a win and two saves during ODAC Tournament. He allowed four singles in 6.0 innings with no walks and five strikeouts. Cok pitched four scoreless innings (10th through 13th) vs. ninth-ranked and top-seeded Shenandoah with two hits and two strikeouts. He earned the save in title game vs. fourth-seeded Hampden-Sydney.
