Roger Williams sophomore Dan Roberge pitched the first perfect
game in Roger Williams history on Sunday. The Hawks (11-5) went on
to sweep the Sunday afternoon doubleheader against Wentworth
(12-5). This is the 14th perfect game in D-III history. The last
perfect game was April 21, 2007 by Trinity (Conn.) Bantam Tim
Kiely.
Roberge faced the minimum 21 batters and had a full count only
three times in the game, striking out three in the process. In the
final inning, Roberge flirted with danger after running the count
to 3-2 on the leadoff batter sophomore Pete Oggeri, but was able to
get him to fly out to right field. Freshman Jake McManus then
popped up a 2-2 pitch to second base, setting up the final out.
After getting ahead in the count, Roberge coaxed junior Nick
Cunningham to ground out to sophomore Grant Bolin at short to make
Hawk history.
