Sophomore pitcher Mitch Hunnicutt tossed a complete-game
no-hitter to lead Hanover to a 7-0 win against the Milwaukee School
of Engineering. The Panthers’ season-opener was played
Sunday, Feb. 26, in Orlando, Fla.
Hunnicutt, 7-3 last season, fanned seven and walked just one in
seven hitless innings to key the victory.
His no-hitter is the fifth in Hanover history and first for the
program since Jeff Smith held Wabash hitless in a 1989 contest.
Junior outfielder Cam Ginder smacked a bases-loaded, three-run
double and sophomore infielder D.C. Craig knocked in a pair of runs
with a two-base hit to spark the Panthers’ offense.
Hanover (2-0) completed the sweep with a 6-0 triumph against the
Raiders in the second contest.
Sophomore hurler A.J. Ehrlich earned the win with five innings of
shut-out work on the mound. Ehrlich allowed only three hits and
tallied five strikeouts. Freshman Clint Jones and sophomore Chip
Hockenbury each tossed one inning of scoreless relief.
Junior first baseman Ryan Grau had two doubles and three
runs-batted-in to lead the Panthers at the plate.
