NCAA playoff field released

More news about: Bowdoin | Chicago | Linfield | Neumann | Rowan
Neumann made it off the bubble and into the Field of 56.

The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee has announced the 56 teams that will compete in the 2012 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

Six teams will compete at four regional sites and eight teams will compete at four regional sites. All regionals will use a double-elimination format. Thirty-eight conference champions qualified automatically.

The committee did not select Linfield to the tournament, despite teasing the possibility, as it did with Rhodes in last year's final regional rankings. The NCAA also took Bowdoin, where we projected the University of Chicago. Neumann made it into the field as well as Rowan, with the teams having a very similar playoff resume and Rowan beating Neumann head-to-head.

Winners of the eight regional tournaments will qualify for the double-elimination championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis., May 25-29.
