NEW YORK, NY – After spending the previous season as the
baseball team's Assistant Coach, Albert Baez has been appointed to
Head Coach after a national search to fill the position. Albert
brings with him a wealth of playing experience and knowledge of the
game, along with a passion to teach student-athletes how to get the
most from the game.
“I am extremely excited to step into the head coaching
position and continue where we left off as a staff last
season”, said Albert. “My main goal is to develop
quality student-athletes that will help take this program to the
next level. I look forward to helping the student-athletes prepare
to compete day in and day out, both in the classroom and on the
field.”
Coach Baez spent last season as the pitching coach for the Macs,
his first season after taking home Pitcher of the Year honors from
the Skyline Conference. Albert played his collegiate baseball at
Purchase College, and was a First-Team All-Conference pitcher in
2009. Albert signed a professional contract with the Wild Things of
the Frontier League, and also played two summers for the Dodge City
A's in the Jayhawk League. He was heavily scouted by major
league scouts during his pitching tenure.
“Many great candidates applied for the position, but Albert
stood out as the candidate that could add his touch to the program
while continuing certain traditions of the program”, said
Assistant Athletic Director John Czarnecki. “Albert is young
and energetic and has a vast knowledge of the game, which makes him
a great fit for the job.”
