Averett esacpes with win

Sam Shook’s two-run homer in the seventh gave Ozarks the lift it needed and starter Freddy Prince threw five solid innings to push the Eagles past Central Baptist College 9-4 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.

Brett Schaekel drove in three runs and delivered what would stand as the game-winning hit in leading Concordia (Texas) to an 8-7 win over Texas Lutheran on Thursday, at Tornado Field in the opening game of the Rudy's BBQ Tornado Classic.

The eighth-ranked Captains mounted another comeback on Thursday, erasing a six-game deficit late in the game, but this time around Randolph-Macon would come out the victor, pulling out an 11-8 win. Christopher Newport drops its first game of the year.

Centenary (La.) split a doubleheader with Jarvis Christian on Wednesday afternoon at Shehee Stadium. The Gents claimed the opening contest 6-1, but fell in the nightcap 4-3 after a late-inning, Bulldog rally. Christian Sebastien and Marc Martinez stood as the only Gents with multiple hits, both logging theirs in the first contest. Centenary posted nine hits in the contest.

The Greensboro Pride defeated Hampden-Sydney 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Greensboro used a three run, four hit first inning to propel them to the victory. Kris Peeden picked up his first win of the season, going six innings allowing three runs on six hits. Brian Robbett would come in with bases loaded and get the next three outs to earn his third save on the season.

Averett hurler Tyler Long struck out five and scattered four hits over seven innings in the Cougars' 4-1 win over Guilford Thursday afternoon. Guilford's Jordan Slate earned his fourth walk of the day to load the bases in the ninth inning before Averett closer Cody Beaver retired D.J. Phillips to earn his second save of the year.

In the opening leg of the 2013 Maloney series, the Belhaven Blazers knocked off the Majors 9-6 at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson. In a "kitchen sink" game for both teams, each club used eight pitchers in an effort to get players work, but not tax them for the weekend ahead.
