Sheneman, Jones earn second POTW award

Outfielder Matt Sheneman, Neumann drove in 15 runs in only four games and Zach Jones, McDaniel threw a no-hitter, earning the second 2013 NCAA Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors for games of March 4-10 as voted on by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Sheneman, a junior from Flemington, N.J., had a huge week for the Knights, who went 4-0.  He batted .769 (10-for-13) with a home run, two doubles, a 1.385 slugging pct., four runs scored, and 15 RBIs, while also going 2-for-2 in stolen bases.  He opened the week with a 3-for-4 game, with a homer and a double, and drove in five runs in Monday’s win over Ohio Northern.  He was 2-for-2 with three RBIs in a win over Thiel on Friday, before ending the week by going 5-for-7 with seven RBIs in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Salem State.  He was 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs in the first game.  Sheneman was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Jones, a senior right-hander from Frederick, Md., tossed a no-hitter in the Green Terror’s 10-0 victory over Penn State-York last Saturday, missing a perfect game by only one batter.  He fanned a career-high 12 batters in the seven-inning gem. Jones, who has thrown 13 consecutive scoreless innings, allowed only a fifth-inning, one-out walk.  It was the 11th no-hitter in Centennial Conference history and the first since March 10, 2010.  Jones was named the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Filauro (Frostburg State) - .777 (7-9), 1 double, 1 home run, 4 RBI, 6 runs, 1.222 slugging pct.
