Arcadia comeback highlights Sunday games - D3baseball

Brandon Martin's RBI infield single in the top of the seventh gave the "Cardiac Kids", AKA the Arcadia University Knights (11-6-1, 4-1 MCOM) a 6-5 lead that they would turn in a 9-6 win over the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (6-12, 2-3). The Knights trailed 5-0 going to the seventh, but scored nine runs on four hits to complete the amazing comeback. This was the second straight game that the Knights rallied to win in their last at bat. Arcadia completed the sweep of Elizabethtown with a 9-6 win in the night cap.

The Spartans split a pair of pitching duels on against Coast Guard Academy, beating the Bears 1-0 in the first game and losing the second 1-0. In game one, Adam Greenlese tossed seven innings to lead Castleton to victory. He allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out four. Tyler Vieira pitched Coast Guard to a win in the nightcap. In Viera's complete game effort, he allowed four hits, striking out four.

Mount Saint Mary senior Michael Morelli hit four home runs as his team split with SUNY Maritime in Skyline Conference action. The Knights dropped the opener, 11-8, but salvaged the split with a 14-6 win in game two. Morelli hit two in each game, finishing the day 6-for-7 with six runs scored and seven RBI.

Rutgers-Newark and Occidental played nine 16 fewer innings than yesterday and each got a win. The Scarlet Raiders took game one, winning 8-2. Kevin Olah hit two home runs in his first two at-bats. Olah was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Occidental finally broke through with a win, snapping a five game losing streak. Joseph Kling pitched a complete game and A.J. Libunao provided the offense with a two-run home run in the final game of a three-game series at Anderson Field.

Rob Diamond and Eric Willey combined to give up no earned runs and just five hits as Wesley defeated York, 5-1, in the rubber game of a CAC series at Jaquet Field. Diamond got the start for Wesley and allowed just four hits and an unearned run while fanning three in six innings. Willey relieved Diamond to start the seventh and earned the save, giving up just one hit over the final three frames.

Vinny D'Ambrosio collected three hits, including a bases-clearing single, and Craig Teed hurled 6.2 strong innings to spark WPI to a 6-5 victory over Johnson & Wales in a non-conference contest played at Pierce Stadium in Rhode Island. The Engineers snapped the Wildcats' eight-game winning streak.

Stevens erupted for six runs in the fourth and fifth innings to run away with a 17-0 victory over Yeshiva at Dobbelaar Field. Eight different hitters for Stevens drove in at least one run in the shortened seven-inning contest. The Ducks were led offensively by sophomore Pete Prontnicki who went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three runs batted in.

Grant Perkins laid down a bases-loaded bunt in the tenth inning to score Kevin Scott and lift Berry over Oglethorpe, 5-4. Doug Heath went 3-for-5 for the Vikings with a mini-cycle (single, double and triple) in the game. Alex McGill went 2-5 with a triple. Danny Parry hurled the last three innings and got the win.

Heidelberg ended a three game lose string with a 5-4 win at Case Western. The Student Prices used a three run uprising in the final inning to salvage a win in the three game series. The Spartans, who swept the Student Princes by scores of 4-1 and 5-2 yesterday, saw their streak of not allowing more than three runs in a game end at nine.

Puget Sound finished off a series sweep of their crosstown rivals from Pacific Lutheran with a 6-3 win. The win gave the Loggers their first NWC series sweep of the Lutes since 2006. The Loggers came out swinging in the series finale with all six of their runs coming before the fifth inning.
