CUC's Townsend takes head coaching job at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. – Millikin University is pleased to announce Brandon Townsend as the new Head Baseball Coach for the Big Blue.

"We are very excited to have Coach Townsend as the next Big Blue Head Baseball Coach," said Dr. Craig White, Millikin Director of Athletics. "Brandon will bring a great deal of energy and enthusiasm along with a great baseball mind to the Millikin program. Based on his baseball experience, Coach Townsend knows what it takes to have a winning baseball program and I am very confident he is the right coach to bring winning baseball to Millikin University."

My family is happy to be joining the Millikin family and I look forward to developing relationships with the Big Blue student athletes, the Millikin campus community, alumni and the local baseball community."

In addition to heading the Millikin baseball program, Townsend will serve as a strength and conditioning coach for the Millikin Athletic Department.

Townsend comes to Millikin after serving as the Head Assistant Coach at Concordia University-Chicago since 2010. Townsend served as Concordia's Head Pitching Coach and the program's Recruiting Coordinator and served the Cougar's Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for its fall and winter sports. In the last three seasons, Townsend helped guide Concordia to three 30 win seasons and two straight NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2013, the Cougars went 39-7 winning the Northern Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles and advancing to the championship game of the NCAA Central Regional. Concordia went 6-0 against CCIW opponents in 2013 including two victories over Augustana College in the NCAA Tournament. Townsend's pitching staff was a major factor in the Cougars success with five Concordia pitchers earning All-Conference honors.

Prior to Concordia, Townsend was at Central College in Iowa from 2007-2010 serving as an assistant baseball and basketball coach.

Leading Millikin will mark Townsend's return to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Townsend played three seasons at North Central College serving as team captain for two seasons and earning two CCIW Pitcher of the Week awards. Townsend served as an assistant baseball coach at North Park University in 2005-06 and at North Central in 2006-07.

Townsend graduated from North Central with a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training in 2005 and earned his master's degree in Athletic Administration from California University in Pennsylvania. Townsend is a Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist (ACSM). Townsend is a graduate of Dwight High School.
