ASHLAND, Wis. — Northland College Director of Athletics Bill
Wilson announced today that Ernie May has been named as the
LumberJacks' new head baseball coach. May begins September 1.May brings 20 years of college coaching
experience to Northland having coached at the NCAA Division I, II
and III levels. Most recently May has served as an assistant coach
at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
"We are very pleased to have Ernie join our Northland College family and lead our baseball program," said Wilson. "Ernie has a wealth of experience coaching at various levels of college baseball. We are confident that he will continue to build our baseball program into a consistent contender in the UMAC."

Rear left the Jacks after a three-year
stint as head coach at Northland. Rear ended the 2013 season with a
14-15 record, the most successful season for Northland since
2006.
During May's two seasons at Trinity College, the team won a division and conference championship and in 2012 they competed in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Prior to coaching at Trinity, May served as an assistant coach for 11 years at the University of Massachusetts, where the team competed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and in 1995 were ranked in the top 25 in the nation.
From 1995 to 1999, May also served as a college head coach at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. He was instrumental in aiding Wofford's transition from NCAA Division II to Division I. May's coaching career began as a graduate assistant coach at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.

"I feel the program is in a good place and the future indeed looks very bright due both to the current group of student athletes and those who are arriving this fall."
May is originally from Amherst, Mass. In 1992, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a minor in Sports Management from Keene State College in Keene, N.H. May received his Master's Degree in Education from Springfield College in 1994.
May has the highest expectations for Northland College baseball on and off the field. "The team will compete to be the best they can every day, in practice first, then on competition days," he said. "The team must be committed to excellence both on and off the field, not only in athletics, but in life as well."
