CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College Athletic Director Peter Krasny recently announced the hiring of Scott Netkovick as the new head baseball coach.

Coach Netkovick is a 2008 graduate of Elms with a bachelor's degree in marketing and later received his MBA from Elms in 2013. He was also a member of the inaugural baseball team as a freshman in 2005.

Prior to taking the reins as the interim head coach, Coach Netkovick was an assistant coach with the program for two years under former head coach Nathan Bashaw. He also served as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving at Elms for five years.

During the 2012 season, Coach Netkovick helped direct the Blazers to a 9-9 conference record and the fourth seed in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament.

The following season, Coach Netkovick helped guide Elms to a 20-20 overall mark – the program's highest ever win total – and a spot in the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship. The team's berth in the ECAC Championship was also the first in program history. The Blazers earned the seventh seed in the tournament and downed second-seeded Castleton State College, 9-3 in the quarterfinal game before falling to No. 3 MIT in the semifinal contest.

Coach Netkovick also brings playing experience and familiarity with the program to his coaching position at Elms. A four-year member of the team from 2005-08, Coach Netkovick was instrumental in helping the program take shape. He started 80 of the 98 games he played with the Blazers and collected 53 hits with eight doubles, five triples, three home runs and 33 RBI. He had an on-base percentage of .389 and a slugging percentage of .386 during his career and was five for five in stolen base attempts.

During his four years as a player, the program improved each season going from four wins in its debut season to 12 in 2008. As a junior in 2007, Coach Netkovick hit .378 in 23 games played, connecting for 14 hits in 37 at-bats. Following the season, he was named Second Team All-North Atlantic Conference (NAC). As a senior, Coach Netkovick hit .295 with 18 hits and amassed a slugging percentage of .492 and started 28 of 30 games played.
