Goulet takes reins of Eagle's program

More news about: Daniel Webster

Nashua, N.H. – The Daniel Webster College department of athletics has announced Nate Goulet has been named head coach of the Eagles baseball program. Goulet replaces J.P. Pyne who posted a 29-12 overall record in 2013.

"We are all excited that Nate has accepted the opportunity to work to continue the unprecedented success the College has enjoyed with the baseball program," noted Gilmore. "Nate was an extraordinarily well-qualified associate coach and he is an extraordinarily well-qualified head coach. We expect his leadership to keep the program in annual contention for the conference title and NCAA tournament."

"I'm grateful to [Daniel Webster College] President Michael Diffily and Athletics Director Chris Gilmore for this opportunity to be the next head baseball coach at Daniel Webster." Goulet said. "Our staff will continue to work hard to continue to elevate the program – one that has already represented its institution so well in both the classroom and on the playing field. My family and I are excited to be a continued part of the DWC Eagles' family in this expanded role."

Goulet, who becomes the ninth coach of the program since joining the NCAA, served this past season as associate head coach coordinating the Eagles offense, as well as work with infielders. The Nashua, N.H. native brings more than a dozen years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level.

Prior to joining DWC, Goulet served as the interim head coach at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. in 2011.  In his only season as the Monarch's skipper he led them to the Colonial Athletic Association's championship game following a second place regular season finish. The 2011 Monarchs were picked to finish seventh in the CAA Pre-Season Poll. For his efforts, Goulet was voted 2011 CAA "Coach of the Year" by his CAA peers.

From 2005-2010 Goulet served as the Old Dominion recruiting coordinator and hitting coach. He was also responsible for developing the ODU catching corps as well as installing the aggressive base running that the program was noted for.  Goulet was also charged with coordinating all opponent scouting reports and all defensive positioning responsibilities.

Prior to his arrival in Norfolk, Goulet spent 1999-2005 as the top assistant coach at East Tennessee State University.  His responsibilities included heading up the Buccaneers recruiting effort as well as coordinating the programs hitters, infielders and base running.  During his tenure in Johnson City, Goulet also coached third base.  Twice during his time at ETSU his recruiting classes were recognized nationally.

Goulet spent two seasons (1998-99) at Delaware State University.  There he served as the programs recruiting coordinator as well as the hitting coach.  In addition to serving as the first base coach, he also worked directly with the infielders and catchers.  Goulet also assisted with the DSU baseball strength and conditioning program.  During his brief time in Dover, Goulet played a significant role in the Hornets remarkable worst to first turnaround in MEAC play.  After finishing dead last in 1998, the Hornets captured the MEAC regular season title in 1999.

Goulet's first coaching assignment was at his alma mater, Lincoln Memorial University where he was a graduate assistant coach in 1997-98.  During that time he organized all recruiting, worked with hitters, infielders and catchers.  This followed a standout playing career for the Railsplitters.

Goulet takes the reins of a program that has become DWC's most successful of late and DWC will enter 2014 as the two-time defending New England Collegiate Conference champion.

Over the past four seasons (2010-13) the program has posted successive 20-plus win campaigns combining for an overall record of 93-63 (.596) which has included a 49-20 (.710) in NECC regular season play. That line of success has produced three NECC regular season titles (2010, 2012, 2013), three NECC tournament titles (2010, 2012, 2013), one ECAC tourney appearance (2010) and two NCAA tournament appearances (2012, 2013) which included the first ever NCAA tournament victory for any sport in DWC history when the Eagles topped MIT in last year's New England regional.
