Linfield, Millsaps stay perfect

Hampden-Sydney won its first two games at Ty Cobb Ballpark this year with home opening victories of 6-0 and 7-0 over Marymount. Spencer Wiles was a 3-for-4 with three RBI on the day.

Five innings of no-hit pitching by Tom Zarosinski and timely hitting carried George Fox to a 12-1 win over Redlands in their first game of the day in the Arizona Desert Classic baseball tournament Saturday. The Bruins suffered their first loss of the season in the second game of the day in a 6-3 setback to La Verne. In other Arizona Desert Classic, LInfield won twice, defeating Pacific Lutheran 5-2 and Redlands 10-3 to move to 3-0 on the young season.  Pacific Lutheran bounced back from their loss with a 5-4 win over Whittier.

The No. 12 Millsaps Majors got five shutout innings and two hits from Keith Shumaker and held off a late Huntingdon rally in a 5-3 road win. Stephen Gates and Annon Etheridge each had three hit games to fuel a 13-hit attack for the Millsaps' offense. Randolph-Macon defeated Rhodes 9-2 in the other gave at the Huntingdon Firehouse Classic.

Texas Lutheran completed a doubleheader sweep of No. 14 Texas-Tyler with 4-1 and 6-5 wins at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. In the early game, TLU senior right-hander Dwayne Snider took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and settled for 6.2 innings pitched with six strikeouts, four walks and two hits. In the late game, in a back-and-forth affair with two lead changes and two ties, TLU's Klaus Bohrmann broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh with a solo home run to left field.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earned its first win of the young season as CMS split a pair of games with Willamette. A bases loaded walk by sophomore Alan Toscano pushed in the winning run for CMS in an 8-7 comeback win in the first game of the doubleheader. In the second game, CMS struggled to get its offense in gear as they could only put together one run against the Willamette pitching staff which held CMS to five hits. Tyler Olson started the game for Willamette and pitched two innings. Matt Jepsen pitched seven innings in relief for Willamette to get the win.

Howard Payne's Kyle Kulczyk went 3-for-3 from the plate in game one of a doubleheader split for the Yellow Jackets with Dallas at Don Shepard Park. The Yellow Jackets won game one 9-6 but dropped game two of the double header 16-3.

Emory split a doubleheader with 11th-ranked Cal Lutheran, falling 13-2 in the early game and claiming a 11-8 win in the second. With the split, Emory moves to 2-1 on the season, while Cal Lutheran, last year's top-ranked offense in Division III, drops to 1-1.

Three players pounded out three hits each for five of the 10 runs scored as East Texas Baptist held off Centenary (La.) in the season opener for both teams at Woods Field. ETBU had an 8-1 lead early in the game before pulling away for the 10-8 victory. Phillip Windham, Tyler Bates, and Matt Sullivan all had three hits as Zach Tampke picked up the his first win of the year.
