FERRUM, Va. -- Jake Perkins recorded his second no-hitter this
season in the opener as Ferrum College swept Maryville College 13-0
and 12-3 in USA South Athletic Conference baseball action this
afternoon at Panther Field.
Perkins threw a complete 9-inning game with 11 strikeouts to get
the win. The sophomore right-hander from Appomattox,
Virginia, accomplished the feat earlier this year when he tossed a
complete 7-inning no-hitter in Ferrum's 3-0 season-opening win over
Southern Virginia University Feb. 1 at home.
Adam Duncan went 3-5 in the opener today with two
doubles, four RBI and two runs. Taryn Hayden went
3-6 with three runs, Jeffrey Swoope went 3-4 with a double and an
RBI, and Matt Reynolds went 2-4 with a double.
Ty Comer went 3-6 with a run and an RBI in game
two. Dillon Weaver earned the win, pitching four
and a third innings. Weaver allowed three hits and an earned
run, walked five and struck out six. Sean King
looked solid in pitching the final four and two third innings with
three strikeouts.
Eddie McGrath combined to go 6-8 in two games with a
double, five RBI and three runs for the Panthers. Landon
Talley and Zack Blonder each had a pair of base hits in the
nightcap for the Scots (5-3, 0-2 USA South).
Ferrum (7-3, 5-0 USA South) and Maryville will play the third and
final game of the USA South series Sunday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. at
Panther Field.
