Pitching on display for Tuesday

Heidelberg's team ERA dropped 2 runs to 8.54 after Kyle Fluharty pitched the first quality start for the Student Princes.

The Heidelberg got a quality start from left-hander Kyle Fluharty and defeated Thiel 10-4 on Tuesday as part of the Gene Cusic Classic. The Student Princes pounded out 16 hits and improved to 2-2. Fluharty allowed four runs, two earned, and struck out six in 7.0 innings. Jordan Watson and Chris Thomas each worked an inning of scoreless relief.

Freshman Corey Sell twirled a two-hitter in his collegiate debut to lead Lebanon Valley in a doubleheader sweep of Immaculata. The Dutchmen took game one 7-5 before winning 7-1 in the second outing. LVC committed six errors leading to all five of Immaculata's runs in the opener as Sell did not allow an earned run, but the defense was sharp behind Jason Brthold in the nightcap as Jordan Higgins drove in three runs at the plate.

First-year pitcher Jacob Kendra went the distance for one of the best pitching performances for Southwestern (Texas) this season to shutout Cardinal Stritch 2-0. Kendra approached the 100 pitch mark in the ninth inning as he allowed just four hits to move to 2-1 on the year. He allowed just three hits through the first five innings as the Wolves managed just five base runners – two coming in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth.

Saint John's salvaged a split with Kenyon in Fort Myers. The Johnnies turned five double plays in a 5-1 win in game one, but issued 11 free passes in an 11-5 loss in the finale.

Solid pitching performances and timely hitting led Trine to 3-2 and 2-0 victories over Milwaukee School of Engineering at Chain of Lakes Park. Brandon Mylcraine and Andy Farrell each picked up their first collegiate wins on the mound. The duo allowed just two earned runs in 12 innings of work.

Junior Jack LaMarca went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI to lead Ohio Northern to a 7-3 win over Illinois College at the Gene Cusic Classic. Sophomore Cody Meyer also collected two hits and scored two runs.

Junior third baseman Kyle Lenihan went 2-for-3 with three RBI in Augustana's 8-4 win over Wilmington on Tuesday.

Manhattanville struggled in its final game at the Cal Ripken Experience, falling to Johnson & Wales by a final score of 8-0. Manhattanville was unable to produce at the plate, tallying only three hits while scoring no runs against Johnson & Wales.

Freshman Bobby Wittemann pitched seven solid innings and the Crusaders took advantage of a costly error as Susquehanna upended No. 25 Misericordia 3-2 Indian River State College. Wittemann threw seven innings and allowed only two runs on six hits while striking out three Cougars for his first career win. As a team, the Crusaders used a seven-hit attack, including two base knocks by freshman Taylor Luckenbill.

Dominican picked up its first win of the season, topping the Northland LumberJacks, 3-1 in 12 innings. Stars' right-hander Cody Mueller, making his first start of the season, lasted ten innings, surrendering one run on six hits and three walks while striking out seven, but did not figure in the decision. Ryan Hoff pitched around a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 12th to pick up his first win of the season.

Lewis & Clark defeated the No. 19 George Fox Bruins 6-3. Sophomore pitcher John Trupin picked up the complete game win, while the Pioneer bats put together 11 hits. The win is Trupin's second of the season, earning him a 2-1 overall record on the mound for L&C. Tom Zarosinski picks up his first loss of the season for George Fox after giving up six runs on 10 hits.
