Javier Guerra was the highlight of the game, coming back from an
injury to take the mound in his first collegiate start, Guerra
would complete a seven inning no hit shut-out that included eleven
strikeouts in what will certainly be a memorable performance for
the red shirt freshman.
The no-hitter overshadowed the superb hitting performance of the
SU offense, combining for 16 runs off 18 hits and 11 runs batted
in.
SU would score five runs in the first, which included an RBI by
Derek Ferch.
Ferch would get another RBI in the second along with JR
Belt in three-run second for the Golden Eagle Nine, extending
their lead, 8-0.
Matt West would bring in the only run in the third off
an RBI sacrifice fly to left field that plated Ryan
Selent and gave SU the 9-0 lead.
SU would go scoreless in the fourth, but plate five more runs in
the fifth. Kyle Whitlock, Matt West,
Derek Ferch, Ryan Mosby, and Kyle
Barbee each had an RBI for the inning, all helping to extend
the SU lead, 14-0.
Kyle Whitlock and Derek Ferch would get an
RBI each in the two-run sixth inning for the Golden Eagles, giving
them the 16-0 lead and ultimately the victory behind Javier
Guerra's no hit performance.
The Golden Eagle Nine will take on Washington University of
Missouri Tuesday, April 1 in an away game in St. Louis, MO at 4:00
p.m EST.
Guerra's first start is memorable
