DeSales comeback highlights Saturday action

Freshman Tyler Sweeney hit a two-out inside the park home run down the left field line in the bottom of the 11th inning completing a comeback that started with three runs in the bottom of the ninth lifting the Bulldogs past FDU-Florham, 5-4, advancing DeSales at least one more game on morning at Owls Field.

Rowan defeated Rutgers-Camden, 8-3 in the NJAC Championship Tournament. The Profs will meet Montclair State in the championship game after Monclair State eliminated William Paterson. Rutgers-Camden eliminated Kean in the opening game of the day.

Totaling 15 hits in the game, Stevenson held off a late rally from Frostburg State, defeating the Bobcats 10-8 at Regency Furniture Stadium, home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

Led by the junior class, the Manhattanville took down second-seeded Misericordia in game four of the Freedom Conference Baseball Championships, beating the Cougars by a final score of 8-2 at Owls Field, placing the Valiants into the Freedom title round.

Kyle Treadway threw a four-hit shutout, leading Pacific to a 4-2 second game win as the Boxers split a non-conference doubleheader at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.  Treadway, who had lost a number of quality starts over the last month, received some solid offensive support as the Boxers pounded out hits and capitalized on an error to score three runs in the go-ahead seventh inning.  Puget Sound won the opener by an 11-6 score. 

Sophomore Kevin Baker's RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the seventh inning snapped a 3-all tie as the second-seeded Roger Williams staved off elimination with a 4-3 victory over sixth-seeded Wentworth in an elimination round game of the 2014 Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. Roger Williams is one of four teams alive going into Sunday after Endicott defeated Salve Regina 10-4 and Western New England beted Gordon 15-1.

Buena Vista capped off what has been arguably the best regular season for any team in program history by completing the four-game series sweep of Loras on Saturday and securing its second Iowa Conference regular season crown in the last five years.

The Lancaster Bible baseball team won its sixth and seventh games in a row on Saturday as they swept Cazenovia to wrap-up the regular season. The Chargers pounded 16 more hits in game one to win 15-5 and then took game two, 7-3. Lancaster Bible is now 15-17 this season and finishes North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a record of 7-11. The seven NEAC wins are a new program record and the 15 wins are the most since the 2010 team won 17, which is the program record.

Junior Eric Hungerford spun a three-hit complete game and shut down third-seeded Muhlenberg over the final four innings, lifting the top-seeded and 21st-ranked Gettysburg to a 2-1 victory in the winner's bracket of the Centennial Conference championship tournament at Kirchhoff Field. Haverford won the opener 4-3 over Johns Hopkins and the final game of thre day 8-6 over Muhlenberg, to meet Gettysburg in the Centenial Conference Championship game. The Fords will need to win two on Sunday to win the tournament.

Fourth seeded Merchant Marine scored four runs over the final three innings to knock off top seed and No. 22 ranked Moravian, 5-2, in the opening game of the 2014 Landmark Conference Tournament being hosted by the Greyhounds at Gillespie Field. Susquehanna defeated Catholic, 11-4, in the other Landmark tournament game.

Junior Jeff Bolio registered two hits, three runs and four RBI, including a three-run homer in the eighth inning, he helped lift top-seeded Worcester State to an 16-5 victory over #4 Westfield State in the MASCAC Tournament quarterfinals this afternoon at the Kevin Lyons Baseball Diamond. Worcester State will meet Salem State, a 4-3 winner, in the winners bracked final.

Husson downed Castleton in a winner's bracket matchup in the NAC Tournament 7-6 Saturday. Husson scored in just two innings, three in the second and four in the eighth, to claim the win and a guaranteed shot at the Championship Sunday. They will have a rematch with Castleton State on Sunday, needing just one win to advance to the 2014 NCAA D-III playoffs.

Springfield was led by the bats of Keith Cotnoir (Westhampton, Mass.), Jared Hopkins (Cranston, R.I.) and Shane O'Leary (Kings Park, N.Y.) in the win. Cotnoir drove in three runs while Hopkins and O'Leary drove in two each. Frank Calabrese (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Steve Starr (Lebanon, Conn.) each tallied two hits.

Tyler Kelly (Absecon, N.J.) earned the win on the mound in his first collegiate start for the Pride. Kelly went five innings, allowing three hits and just one run while striking out four.
