Banner to lead Chatham in 2016

Pittsburgh, Pa - Chatham University has announced the addition of Timothy Banner as the program's first head baseball coach. Banner brings over 26 years of coaching experience to his new position. The Cougars will take the field in the spring of 2016.

 

"I'm very excited about coming to Chatham and being able to start up a new program. I look forward to the opportunity, and think there is a lot of local talent we can draw from. Being the only Division III program in the City is going to mean great things for our program."

Prior to joining the Cougars, Coach Banner was the head coach at Woodland Hills High School from 2007-2013. Coach Banner was also the head coach at North Allegheny High School from 1999-2006. During his time there the Tiger's made the AAAA playoffs every year, were crowned State Champions in 2000, WPIAL Champions in 2003 and 2005 and State Semi-Finalists in 2005.

As head coach of North Catholic High School from 1994-1998, the Trojan's won the WPIAL AAA/AAAA title in 1995, and were runner-up in 1998. Coach Banner was the Assistant Head Coach at Moon Area High School from 1991-1994, and the Head Coach of Avonworth High School from 1988-1991.

During his own career, Banner participated in the Pony League World Series, he was a 3-year starter at Point Park University with a .321 lifetime average, and was a 10 year player for the North Pittsburgh Semi-Professional Baseball Club, who won titles seven of those 10 years.

Banner and his wife Cynthia have two children, Nicole (30) and Evan (26). Nicole coached softball at Clarion University, and currently serves as the assistant softball coach at Chatham.
