Nothing is more fundamental in baseball as the old adage that good pitching will always stop good hitting. Our Sunday recap looks at some of the outstanding pitching performances on Sunday.

Adrian capped off a 3-0 weekend with another shutout of North Central (Ill.) by the final of 5-0. Jordan Frayer tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed just two singles. He gave up a single to the first hitter of the day and also a leadoff hit to start the fourth. Frayer was on mark with no walks and struck out five in his first win of the season.

Illinois Wesleyan posted wins of 4-1 and 9-3 doubleheader sweep over Rose-Hulman Institute at the Corn Crib in Normal. In the opener, junior lefthander Josh Jimenez allowed six hits, only one of which left the infield, and struck out 11 in picking up the win with the complete game. Rose-Hulman sent the tying run to the plate in the final inning but Jimenez ended the contest with a strikeout.

No. 4 Salisbury opened their Sunday with a 8-2 win over previously unbeaten Mary Washington. Brett Collacchi was superb in his second win of the season with a two-hit performance in eight innings. He struckout eight and walked two batters. Salisbury would complete the CAC sweek with a 10-9 win in the nightcap.

Endicott opened their 2015 season with two losses, 2-1, 8-7 to third-ranked Cortland State. The first game featured a pitching matchup between the defending CCC Pitcher of the Year from Endicott, junior righty JJ Branch, and Cortland's All-American senior left-hander Brandon McClain. Both hurlers went six scoreless innings until the seventh inning where the Gulls got on board with a run and the Red Dragons countered with two for the win. McClain earned the win, going 7.0 innings and allowing one earned run on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Newbury split an afternoon doubleheader against non-conference Anna Maria with an 8-1 win in game two after falling to the Amcats, 3-2 in the first game. The nightcap started out as a good old fashioned pitchers duel but as rain started to fall, the Nighhawks batsmen found their strokes, spoiling Amcat sophomore Andrew Sawyer's outing.
