One is enough for Blue Jays on Sunday

Kevin Elwell threw a complete game, two-hit, shutout and Kyle Fackler's RBI single in the third was Elizabethtown's only hit as the Blue Jays locked up a series victory against Catholic, 1-0, in game one Sunday afternoon at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. The Cardinals won game two, 3-2, to avoid the weekend sweep.

Senior Mark Syron laced a walk-off double down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh inning for the winning run and help the Saints to a 3-2 win over Bard in the first game of a Liberty League doubleheader. Michael LaFevre was 5-for-5 with four runs scored and Adam Reichel had six RBI in a 15-7 come-from-behind win for the Saints in game two. St. Lawrence is now 8-1 overall on the season and 4-0 in conference games.

Carthage defeated Middlebury, 13-1 at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. Carthage collected 15 hits with Drew Bailey leading the way by going three-for-four with a double, a home run and five RBI. Starting pitcher Jared Helmich was solid, going all seven innings and allowing just one run on five hits, two walks and eight strikeouts.

Anna Maria split a non-conference doubleheader with the Owls of UMaine-Presque Isle at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. The AMCATS posted a 6-3 walk-off win in extra innings in game one before suffering a 13-9 loss in the nightcap. With today's results, the AMCATS improve to 5-7 on the season, while the Owls open the season at 1-1.

No. 1 UW-Whitewater surrendered a late lead but didn't give in, recovering for a 5-3 victory over North Central (Ill.) in 11 innings in a non-conference affair at Lake Myrtle Park.  Senior second baseman Nick Kuhlmann gave the Warhawks the lead for good with a two-out, run-scoring triple to right center field. The Cardinals' throw to third base went into a dugout, allowing Kuhlmann to score and account for the final margin.

Texas Lutheran used a three-run first inning and a dominant pitching performance from Aaron Aleman to take the first game of a home doubleheader 6-0 against Trinity (Texas). Mike Walker was just as dominant for Trinity in the nightcap. His compete game four-hitter gave the Tigers a 12-2 win and a split of the days games.

Wesley scored 31 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Valley Forge at Bob Reed Field. Taking the opener, 14-3, before a 17-0 shutout in the nightcap. Cory Smith and KeAndre Jones both drove in five runs in the twinbill to lead Wesley. Tyler Hunter had a team-high four hits with five runs scored and four stolen bases.

Darrell Thompson allowed the one run on six hits in seven innings to record a win in game one of the Hornets doubleheader.

No. 14 Shenandoah earned its third straight weekend doubleheader sweep by taking a pair from Hampden-Sydney. Shenandoah ran its unbeaten streak to eight games thanks to a pair of strong pitching performances on both ends of the doubleheader. In the opening 4-1 win, Darrell Thompson and Ryan Mossman combined to pitch a seven-hitter while Michael Scimanico and Matthew Wilson tossed a one-hitter in the 7-0 game two victory.

Nathan Suyematsu threw a complete-game five-hitter as a game-ending walk allowed Pacific to prevent a Linfield sweep with a 3-2 win over the Wildcats in NWC action at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.  Suyematsu threw Pacific's third complete game of the season and allowed two runs on five hits with one strikeout. The junior also helped his own cause at the plate as he went 2-for-4.

Kean swept Ithaca by the finals of 2-1 and 8-0 in a Sunday non-conference doubleheader at Jim Hynes Stadium. Senior Anthony Fischetti was a combined 4-for-6 with three RBI and three stolen bases in the win as Kean improves to 11-4 on the season.  Senior Christian Brown recorded three hits for Ithaca.

Luke Mandich and Ryan Boettcher both were in command on the mound and Lakeland swept both ends of its home opener doubleheader with shutouts. The Muskies defeated the LumberJacks by scores of 1-0 and 2-0 on a brisk afternoon on the Muskies' home diamond. Mandich and Boettcher both threw complete game shutouts as the Muskies swept both ends of a doubleheader via shutout for the first time since May 7, 2011 against Edgewood.

Williams bounced back from an season-opening defeat to edge Carleton in the second game Sunday, 5-4. Beau Horan led the Ephs in the nightcap victory, going 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Hayden Tsutsui continued to justify his selection as a D3baseball.com Preseason All-American, putting together another 3-for-4 day at the plate. The junior catcher is now 9-for-12 in Arizona and leads the Knights in most major offensive categories. In Sunday's first game, the Ephs dropped a 15-3 decision to Valley City State, an NAUA squad from North Dakata.

Backed by stellar performances from senior Joe Palmeri and sophomore Dillon Healy, Manhattanville cruised past King's (Pa.) in Freedom Conference play, winning game one by a final score of 14-3 before picking up a 5-0 game two victory.

Senior Thomas McKenna became the new St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) all-time runs scored leader with 125 runs, surpassing Michael Cundari.

Illinois Wesleyan got 26 hits in two games and split the contests, topping Concordia-Chicago, 12-8, before losing a 13-5 decision at Webster. The Titans survived a game in which they made five errors and allowed seven unearned runs with a 15-hit attack. Against Webster, the Gorloks got to the Illinois Wesleyan pitching early and thwarted the Titan's comeback effort.

Two complete-game pitching performances helped lead Franklin to a doubleheader sweep over the St. Francis from John P. McDowell Field. The Grizzlies won the opener 7-3 before a 6-0 triumph in the second game. Sophomore Jacob McMain recorded six strikeouts in picking up his first win of the season over seven innings in the opening contest. In the second game, freshman Christian Sullivan struck out six batters and scattered three hits in the shutout win.

Elmhurst's Ben Havel tossed seven strong innings and also recorded three hits at the plate while helping to lead Elmhurst to a 7-2 win over Hamilton. Havel and Brandon Kressner totaled three hits apiece to lead the Bluejays' offense.

Westminster (Pa.) swept Penn State Beaver at home in a doubleheader. The Titans won game one 4-3 in 10 innings and won 7-2 in game two. Titan junior pitcher Dylan Thomas earned his first win of the season in fame one after coming in for relief and throwing a no-hitter for two innings. He struck out two batters and walked one. In game two, freshman Colton Crissman earned his first collegiate win as he pitched 6.0 innings, while giving up two runs off seven hits. He struck out five batters and walked none.

Cory Mack took a shutout into the ninth inning and pitched the first complete game of the season for Whitworth while the offense produced 14 hits in completing a series sweep of Puget Sound with an 11-3 win at Merkel Field. Mack held the Loggers to six hits through the first seven innings. He struck out two and did not walk a batter, marking the third consecutive game in which the Whitworth pitching staff has not surrendered a walk.

Adrian got timely hitting and stout starting pitching with a two game sweep of Albion at Nicolay Field. Jordan Frayer went seven innings in game one and scattered six hits with one earned run coming in the seventh inning. Tommy Eng usually gets the ball out of the bullpen but after 18 innings between these two teams yesterday in Albion, got the start in game two. Eng needed 82 pitches to in a complete game, going seven innings with three hits allowed.

For six innings Gallaudet was hanging with No. 16 Frostburg State but in the late innings, the Bobcats ran away with a 7-2 win. Frostburg St. stole five of its eight bases during the final three innings and the Bison committed four errors as Frostburg State outscored the Bisons 5-2 in the the final three frames.

St. Mary's (Md.) put an end to their two-game skid with a 4-0 shutout of Rivier at Regency Furniture Stadium, home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Junior southpaw Ben Goldsmith pitched a beauty for St. Mary's third win of the season. In only his second career start and first since April 28, 2013, Goldsmith threw 7.0 scoreless innings, scattering just three hits with a season-best five strikeouts and no walks. He retired Rivier's side in order four times.

First-year Sean Kiley turned in another promising pitching performance and Benjamin Whitener remained locked in at the plate as the Oberlin defeated Gustavus Adolphus 6-2 in game one before dropping the nightcap 19-10.
