Throggs Neck, N.Y. Junior right hander Tyler Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) worked the second no-hitter in program history on Saturday afternoon, helping the Dolphins to a doubleheader split in a key Skyline Conference doubleheader at Maritime. The Dolphins dropped the first contest 6-3 and rebounded to down the Privateers 3-0 behind Krolikowski's no-hitter.
Krolikowski was in control from the start in game two on Saturday, allowing a walk, a hit batsman and a runner to reach on an error. Only one Maritime runner reached scoring position in the game as Krolikowski went 7.0 innings and struck out 14 batters, including the side in the third and sixth innings. The only other no-hitter in program history came when Mike McManus worked one in the opener of a doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary on March 26, 2011.
Mount Saint Vincent was held off the board until the fifth when it finally broke through with a pair of runs. Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) worked a two-out walk to start the rally and moved to second when Casey Surdi (West Islip, N.Y.) was issued a free pass. Senior Nicholas Pace (Cranford, N.J.) delivered both runners with a run scoring base hit to give Krolikowski all the cushion he would need.
The Dolphins plated an insurance run in the seventh inning when Pace delivered Senisi with a one-out single through the middle to close the scoring in the game.
Pace was the only Mount Saint Vincent player to record a hit in the game, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Senisi walked twice for the Dolphins and scored two runs.
Paul Pfundstein took the loss after working 4.2 innings and surrendering two runs on two hits. He struck out four, but walked five for the Privateers in the game.
In the opener on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a 3-1 lead after scoring two runs in the second and another in the fourth. Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) forced in a run in the second with a walk and Matthew Nesensohn (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in Surdi with a single.
The Dolphins extended their lead to 3-1 in the fourth when Schroeher delivered Pace with a single. Pace reached by singling and landed in scoring position after a failed pick-off attempt at first base.
Maritime got a run back in the home half of the fourth on an unearned run and tied the score in the fifth on a Chris Deddo single with two outs. The Privateers grabbed the lead for good in the game with two runs in the sixth and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Matthew Sollin hit a two-run home run in the sixth and Brian McLaughlin produced a run scoring single in the seventh to close out the scoring in the game.
The first five batters in the Mount Saint Vincent order recorded a hit in game one, with Schroeher driving in two runs and Pace scoring once. Michael Kuczinski (Millstone Twp., N.J.) walked twice in the game and scored a run for the Dolphins.
Deddo went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Maritime out of the leadoff spot. McLaughlin picked up two hits and two RBI in the contest and Joe Longo scored a pair of runs.
Nicholas Recarte (Hackensack, N.J.) took the game one loss for Mount Saint Vincent, working 5.1 innings and giving up four earned runs on seven hits. Robert Negron (Bronx, N.Y.) came on to work 2.2 innings of relief, allowing a run on three hits. Anthony D'Ancona earned the win with 4.0 innings of shutout relief.
With Saturday's split, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 7-17 overall on the season and 4-4 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will play a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday when they host Fisher (Mass.). First pitch at Silver Lake Park in West Harrison, N.Y. is set for 11:00 a.m.
