WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University Director of Athletics Addy Malatesta has announced the hiring of Nate Ramsey as the school's head baseball coach.
Ramsey, who spent last season as the Colonels hitting coach and recruiting coordinator, takes over for Matt Hollod, who was named director of baseball operations at Cal State Northridge.
"I am truly blessed and excited to be named the next head baseball coach at Wilkes University," said Ramsey. "I would first like to thank Addy Malatesta, Dr. Paul Adams, and Dr. Patrick Leahy. I would also like to thank former head coach Matt Hollod and the rest of the Wilkes family for the opportunity and helping make this a smooth transition. The baseball program at Wilkes is in a great place right now with a balanced mix of returners and incoming freshmen, and I look forward to teaching, coaching, and continuing to build on the foundation of the program," he added.
Prior to Wilkes, Ramsey served as a head coach in the Austrian Baseball Federation as well as an assistant coach at Holy Cross College in South Bend, Indiana. He also served as the hitting coach for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings, a professional team in the United Baseball League in 2013. He has done over 1,500 individual hitting, pitching, and fielding lessons.
Ramsey received his bachelor's degree at Bluefield State College, and obtained his Master's Degree in Coaching Education from Ohio University in August, 2015.
He is a native of Greenville, South Carolina, and was prepped at Southside Christian High School.

Wilkes finished 18-20 overall last season and 10-11 in the Freedom Conference narrowly missing a postseason berth in the conference tournament.
