Gordon gets gem, Misericordia takes two in Puerto Rico

Gordon senior Scott Hall threw a one-hitter in a 4-0 win against Anna Maria with a career-high 14 strikeouts in the victory, cumulating in a sweep of the Amcats on Sunday. Gordon won game one 10-5.

Misericordia opened their Clemente Cup games with a pair of wins, 3-0 over No. 11 Kean and 9-6 over Messiah in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Misericordia Ryan Dorosh dazzled in the Kean win and Jeremy DeCotiis had seven RBIs in the late contest. Next up for the Cougars is Arcadia, 14-6 winners over Susquehanna in their first contest in the Carribean.

Senior Matt Backlund threw a one-hitter in the opener and freshman John Catchmark earned his first career win in game two as Alvernia swept a doubleheader against Baruch  for their first two wins of the season.

King's used offense in the first game and pitching in the second game to sweep Juniata in a doubleheader at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale. King's won the first game 17-10 before taking the nightcap 5-1 to move to 4-0 on the season.

Oswego State defeated the Wesley Wolverines, 13-9 and 10-5, in both ends of a doubleheader. The Lakers remain undefeated and push their record to 7-0. Eric Hamilton continued his hot hitting with long balls in each of the wins.

Nichols picked up its first win of the season 9-3 over Becker in non-conference action at the New England Baseball Complex. The Bison had 14 hits from seven different student-athletes and heads into the Snowbird Classic in Florida with a 1-1 record.

Darrell Thompson was back by a 16 hit offensive effort as Shenandoah completed a weekend sweep of the Beavers of CCNY.

Teams ranked nationally in the top ten spots went a combined 4-1 on Sunday. Top ranked Cortland won their 17th straight games dating back to last season with a 4-2 win over Johns Hopkins. Emory opened the UAA Tourament with a 3-1 win over Washington (Mo.) while fellow south region member Birminghan-Southern was led by Matt Brown's 4-for-5 day in sweeping the weekend series from Centre with a 7-1 victory. Darrell Thompson had 11 strikeouts as the Honets finished off a sweep of CCNY 12-0. Frostburg State posted the lone loss as Scranton scored four seventh inning runs for a 5-4 comeback win.

No. 14 Randolph-Macon fell for the first time this season. The Guilford Quakers built a 2-0 lead and held off a charging RMC team 2-1. No. 21 Marietta also suffered a loss on the day as the Pioneers and the St. John Fisher Cardinals traded walk off wins. Marietta won game one 6-5 in head Coach Brian Brewer's 500th coaching win and lost 3-2 in the nightcap.

No. 14 Whitworth, no. 17 Pacific Lutheran, and No. 20 Linfield all posted wins in their NWC series on Sunday. Whitworth found revenge on George Fox with a 9-2 win. The Lutes completed a series sweep of Willamette 10-1, sending the Bearcats to their third straight loss. Linfield shutout Lewis and Clark 9-0 to take their series two games to one.

Brady Smith's hitting and Trey Rampy's pitching led No. 21 Berry to an 11-2 win over Transylvania,  preventing the Pioneers from sweeping the weekend series. No 22 Wartburg won a pair of games, 3-0, 9-8, giving the Purple Raiders their first blanking if the season. Kyle Fluharty threw a complete game shutout to lead the No. 25 Heidelberg to a 2-0 win over Anderson. The senior was dominant throughout and was provided with just enough run support as the Student Princes salvaged the weekend with a win.

Rochester got a kickstart to the 2016 season with a strong offensive output in a 12-8 victory over New York University in the opening game of their season and UAA Championship. Rochester got strong production from the top and bottom pairs in the lineup as the Matt Todd, Jake Meyerson, Steve Eychner and Ryan Spurr combined for nine of Rochester's 11 hits, scored seven runs and drove in seven as well. Case Western stole a conference-tournament record 12 bases in their 6-3 win over Brandeis, sending the Judges to their first defeat this season.

Thiel opened their season strong with a 10-2 victory over the MacMurray Highlanders in the first day of the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. The Tomcats provided plenty of insurance to back up their starter Matt Elko. The Tomcats scored seven of their 10 runs in the first two innings.

William Paterson split a seven-inning doubleheader against Keene State, winning the first game, 2-1, before dropping an 8-6 decision during the nightcap.

Earlham swept a doubleheader, defeating Kalamazoo 13-4 in game one and 6-2 in game two to take the three-game series held at Sadler Stadium.

Bethel (Minn.) was involved in another early start. This time it was with St. Scholastica who had their earlies outdoor start in progam history. The Saints opened up its season with a solid victory, defeating Bethel 6-2 at the University of Northwestern's Reynolds Field.

Southern Vermont downed Gallaudet 1-0 for its third straight win. Gallaudet's Blake Phillips and SVC's Dylan Angelo were locked in a pitchers duel all afternoon and in the end, the visiting Mountaineers manufactured a run in the eighth inning and held on to win 1-0.

Ithaca swept a doubleheader from Joseph's (L.I.). 4-1 and 18-2. Game one was a classic pitcher's duel with Ithaca's Benji Parkes' no-hit bid broken up in the sixth. The Bombers got off to quick start and did not let up the accelerator in the nightcap blowout.
