Sul Ross shuts out Dallas in weekend finale

Sul Ross State played nerly flawless defense all weekend with only one error in the three game series with Dallas.

Junior starter Cody Remore threw nine complete innings and yielded just three hits to pace Sul Ross to a 4-0 shutout victory over the University of Dallas in the series finale Sunday. Remore struck out six Crusader batters for his complete game win. Sul Ross finished the game with nine hits.

Pomona-Pitzer defeated non-conference opponent Willamette 17-0 at Alumni Field. On the mound for Pomona-Pitzer was junior Nicholas Radich who went seven complete innings surrendered six hits and two strikeouts for his first win of the season. The Sagehens were led by senior Tanner Nishioka who went 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI off of a grand slam for his first home run of the year. Freshman Nolan McCafferty also went 3-4 with two runs scored and junior Cade Hulse went 4-5 with three runs scored. 

LaGrange finished a sweep of Sewanee in its opening two-game series with a 16-4 win at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers pounded out 17 hits in the game. Blake Butcher went 5-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs. Chad Pigg drove in three runs with a home run and a double. In the first two games, La Grange has scored 26 runs and had 29 hits. Andrew Weekley pitched five innings to pick up the victory. He allowed a first inning run, then threw four scoreless innings. Weekley gave up four hits, walked two, and struck out four.

It was getaway day in California for Centenary (La.) and what a day it was. The Gents capitalized on 16 hits and six walks to score 11 runs, while they only gave up a solo home run to the Tigers as Centenary blasted Occidental 11-1. With the Gents leading 6-1 heading into the eighth, the Gents ended the game an inning early thanks to a five-spot in the frame.
