Hamline rode home runs from Jacob Picht and Rick Tormey and some clutch relief pitching for a 5-4 win at Wartburg in their 2017 season opener. The second game didn't go as well with the Knights claiming an 11-3 decision. Wartburg had two big scoring innings, scoring five time sin the second and seventh innings.
Christopher Newport sophomore reliever Thomas Packert continued the sensational start to his collegiate career by picking up his first victory and tossing four no-hit innings of relief to help CNU walk off with an extra-inning win over Elmira, 6-5. Packert struck out seven of the 13 batters he faced, and allowed just one batter to reach via an error after retiring the first 11. Following the error, he promptly got the next batter to ground out, completing his four innings pitched with just one batter more than the minimum faced. Through his first three collegiate appearances, he has yet to allow a hit over 6.1 innings of work with 11 strikeouts.
No 20 Texas-Tyler jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning and never looked back in a 7-3 non-conference win over Southwestern at Rockwell Field. The Patriots extended a five-game winning streak with the victory while Max Page won his first start of the year and the bullpen has now thrown 19 straight scoreless innings to start the season with Blake Brunnemann, Hunter Palmer and Miles Thomas throwing four scoreless frames against the Pirates. Thomas recorded his first save with two scoreless and three strikeouts. Daniel Williams, Trenton Buchhorn and Jared Pauley all left Georgetown with three hits for the Patriots who had 13 hits which is the fifth double-digit hit performance through seven games. Williams went 3-for-6 in the game, including hitting his second home run of the season. Buchhorn was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Pauley went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Bates jumped out to an early lead and held on to defeat Whittier by a score of 6-5 for their first win of the season. The Bobcats never trailed against the Poets after pouncing early to take a 5-0 lead through three innings. Bates pounded out 15 hits in the win but left 11 men on base. Ryan McCarthy finished 3-5 with two runs scored, a double, a homer and a run batted in. Kyle Carter went 2-5 with a run scored and a run batted in.
Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Millsaps put together a big fourth-inning that proved to be the difference as the Majors came away with a 6-3 victory in non-conference action over local rival Belhaven. Senior Seth Trulock and junior Andy Page both drove in a pair of runs in the deciding frame for Millsaps.

When a baseball team surrenders runs to an opponent in a half inning of play it's always good to answer back with at least one run in the very next at-bat. Bethel University did more than that in their season opener Tuesday, as the Royals uncorked 25 runs against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul after spotting the Eagles two in the bottom of the first inning. As a result, BU opened the 2017 campaign with a bang thanks to a 25-2 victory over UNW. Bethel's 25 runs came on 24 hits, six walks, and one sacrifice fly. Among the 24 hits were seven doubles, one triple, and two home runs.
Catholic opened its 2017 season with an outstanding 14-1 victory over St. Mary's (Md.). The Cardinals rotated through eight pitchers in the season opener. Sophomore Jon Mierzwa started on the rubber the Catholic. Junior Joseph Prego entered for the second and third innings then sophomore Collin Brown pitched the fourth. Freshman Ross Dean threw for the fifth inning and junior Sean Carroll got his turn in the sixth. Sophomore Colin Cunningham and junior Mark Duffy took on the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, and senior Joseph Salzano finished on the mound for Catholic. Salzano caught 3-of-4 batters looking to close out the season-opening win.
A three-run third inning would prove to all McMurry needed in its 4-2 victory over crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons at Hunter Field. On the day, both Noah Clarkson and Payton Stokes went 2-for-4 as the War Hawks with multiple hits. Robert White, who went 1-for-3, had the pair of runs batted in and walked twice.
Three Panther homers flew out of Hart Park as Chapman completed a series sweep of Redlands with an 8-2 win. Sophomore Matt Mogollon settled in for an effective seven-inning outing top pick up his first win of the year. Junior Gavin Blodgett sent two of those four homers beyond the fence in left field with both driving in a pair of runs. Junior Jared Love smashed a three-run homer.
