Sweet sweeps for Texas-Dallas, UW-Whitewater

On the mound, Jeff Parker earned the win for Geneva after 7.1 innings of work. Parker allowed three runs, two hits, walked four and struck out two batters.

On Thursday, Geneva defeated the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference single nine-inning contest; 7-3. Geneva tallied a run in the first and second innings before Waynesburg got on the board with a run in the fourth; 2-1. Geneva’s two runs in the fifth would ultimately be enough for the win as the Golden Tornadoes held a 4-1 lead after four innings. The Yellow Jackets’ eighth inning comeback attempt scoring two runs fell short as Geneva ensured the win with three more runs in the ninth. Tyler Pagaduan went 4-5 at bat scoring two runs. Joey Luciana also had a big day going 2-2 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.

Sophomore Tyler Hopman tossed a complete game in helping the Kean Cougars to a 3-1 win over visiting Montclair State. Hopman improved to 5-2 on the season as he allowed just seven hits and one walk with one unearned run in the under two hour contest.

No. 3 ranked UW-Whitewater posted a pair of victories in dominant fashion, sweeping UW-Stout in a WIAC doubleheader at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium. The Warhawks registered an 11-1 triumph in game one in seven innings by run rule and followed it up with a 10-2 win in the nightcap. Sophomore catcher Mike Aiello enjoyed a strong day at the plate going 5-for-8 with three runs and three RBIs.

Suffolk overcame a 2-0 deficit to remain unbeaten in GNAC play, defeating the Falcons of Albertus Magnus, 9-2, at East Boston Memorial Park. Suffolk found itself in an early 2-0 hole with Albertus Magnus using one run in the second and fourth, respectively. The Rams waited until the sixth to turn up the volume when they over turned the deficit and went through their line-up to grab a 9-2 advantage.

St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) christened their new home, American Legion Field, routing John Jay 15-1 in a non-conference victory. Senior Nicholas LoPrinzi and sophomore John Condon drove in four runs each. Freshmen Andrew Waters, Matthew Rienzi and Peter Terranova combined to toss two-hitter—matching the team record for fewest hits allowed in a game.

No. 13-ranked Texas-Dallas earned a pair of lopsided victories as the Comets swept Louisiana College, 14-5 and 8-0, to open a three-game ASC series. The Comets scored in every inning except one while junior right-hander Ruben Renteria improved to 8-0 on the mound in a 14-5 win over Louisiana College to open the twin bill. In game two, the Comets slowly took a 3-0 lead through six innings before erupting for a five-run 7th frame in an 8-0 win over Louisiana College to close the doubleheader with the Wildcats.

Jimmy Short reached first base six times on Thursday as Greensboro won twice to reach the third day of the USA South  tournament.

The sixth-seeded Greensboro advanced to Day 3 at the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament after recording two wins Thursday. The Pride defeated No.7 William Peace, 7-2, to open the day before topping No.5 Maryville , 9-6. The wins marked the first tournament victories for the Greensboro baseball team since the 2008 season. La Grange, a 3-0 winner over Maryville, and NC Wesleyan, an 8-2 winner over Ferrum, will meet as the only undefeated teams in the tournament. Greensboro and Piedmont will play an elimination game. Second seeed Ferrum was eliminated with two losses on the day.

Lebanon Valley came from behind to defeat Stevenson 11-5 in MAC Commonwealth action as the Dutchmen won their fourth straight. With Stevenson ahead 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Michael Puglisi drew a walk to begin the inning. Next, Marshall Kiessling continued his impressive season by doubling down the left field line to score Puglisi and tie the game at 5-5. From there, Chris DeClerico singled to left to plate Kiessling and put the Dutchmen up 6-5. That proved to be the game-winning hit, but LVC wasn't done as they added five runs in the eight to reach the final totals.

Jake Casey tossed six and a third scoreless innings and Justin Teague and Jack Massa combined to drive in five runs as nationally sixth-ranked Cortland registered a 6-2 victory at SUNY New Paltz. Cortland broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the sixth, added two in the eights, and out scored SUNY New Paltz 3-2 in the ninth.

The relief was palatable as Gordon ended a four-game skid in a big way by handing Fitchburg State a 13-5 loss. The Scots shook off a four-run deficit early in the game and showcased a balanced offense to record their sixth victory of the season. Garrett Poole turned in an excellent game after the rough first inning, giving up only three hits and one run after the opening frame. The rookie pitcher earned his first collegiate win by striking out nine Falcons in seven and two-thirds.

Wilkes got a solid effort on both sides of the ball, defeating the Delaware Valley Aggies 8-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action. Senior Chris Nixon improved to 3-2 this season, throwing six innings and surrendering just one hit with one walk and eight strikeouts. Brady Wing (2-for-4, one run scored, one RBI), and Joshua Slocum (2-for-3, three RBI's), led the Colonels at the plate.

Junior Cole Migliorini and sophomore Jeff Butler both homered, scored three and knocked in two as 13th-ranked Randolph-Macon defeated York 10-6 on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. The Yellow Jackets tallied double-figure runs for the fifth straight game and extended their win streak to six. Migliorini was a triple short of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with a walk. Butler went 2 for 5 with a double and a dinger.

Between Alex Mumme's bat and Brandon Weidenfeld's arm, Ursinus had enough to complete a sweep of Penn State Berks with a 7-5 home victory. Mumme continued his remarkable raking with three more doubles, finishing 3-for-4, scoring twice and delivering the go-ahead runs with a two-run double to right in the bottom of the fourth. All of the game's scoring came in the first four innings, mostly thanks to a dominant relief outing from Weidenfeld. The senior southpaw pitched five scoreless innings, striking out four without a walk and conceding just five singles for his first career win.

In game one, Farmingdale State senior pitcher Matt Seelinger tossed a complete game shutout as the Rams earned a 4-0 victory over Baruch. In the bottom of the ninth in game two, senior first baseman Dalton McCarthy hit a walk-off RBI single, leading Farmingdale State to a 6-5 win and doubleheader sweep.

No. 1 Shenandoah won its second game of the week with an 8-5 non-league victory over Frostburg State. All nine hitters got at least one hit in the contest as Shenandoah scored a combined five runs in the third through fifth innings to take a 7-2 lead over the Bobcats. FSU made matters interesting with two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth off of Hornets starter Reeves Lowry, but the Hornet bullpen shut the door.
