Washington College head baseball coach Matt Reynolds has accepted the head coaching position at his collegiate alma mater, Division I UMass. Reynolds served as the Shoremen's head coach for the past three seasons.

"It truly was bittersweet when Matt informed me he was taking the UMass position," remarked Washington College Director of Athletics Thad Moore. " I couldn't be happier for him and his wife,  but he is going to be sorely missed. Over the last three years, he's had a tremendous impact on our department and baseball program. He has set our program up for future success and we wish him well in his new endeavor." 

Reynolds guided the Shoremen to a 59-50-1 record during his tenure at the College. His 2016 team finished 26-12-1, posting the second-highest single-season win total in program history. 

Prior to arriving in Chestertown, Reynolds spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy. A 2005 graduate of UMass, Reynolds served as a graduate assistant coach at the school for three seasons. He also played for the Minutemen for his final two collegiate seasons after transferring from the University of Maine. He earned Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team honors in 2003 and was named the Minutemen's Most Valuable Player the following season.

The Minutemen went 15-32 this spring, including an 8-16 record in the Atlantic 10.
