Muskingum sophomore Josh Bigrigg fired seven strong innings and the Muskie bats hammered out 18 hits to lead the squad past Bridgewater State, 11-2 on Thursday. Bigrigg earned his first win of the young season after limiting Bridgewater St. to one run on seven hits through seven innings. He ended the outing with four strikeouts. Eddie Harper ended the game going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Junior Michael Pagano went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs and a double, while Holden Martin ended with two RBIs.

If his first effort is any indication, Nolan Schoonveld is ready for the 2018 season. The junior righthander tossed six scoreless, walk free innings to lead the Pipers to a 9-2 win over Wisconsin-Stout and a split of the season opening doubleheader at US Bank Stadium. Schoonveld fanned three as well to ease the memory of a 6-2 loss in the first game of the season. Jack Hemsath and Tim Bott both drove in a pair of runs to key the win for Uw-Stout.
Averett extended their winning streak to two with a 5-4 victory over Mary Washington. Averett plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 5-3 lead over Mary Washington. Senior Bradley Tickle came to bat with runners on second and third with two outs on the board. The Keeling, Virginia native hit a grounder to first that the Eagle first baseman threw away that allowed both Averett runners to come home and score. Mary Washington was able to scratch one run across in the top of the ninth before Tyler Ray grounded out to senior Dallas Smithers to give the Cougars the 5-4 win.
Messiah took advantage of five Gettysburg errors to pick up a 9-0 decision in non-conference action. Gettysburg managed just three hits against six Messiah pitchers. Messiah was led offensively by Trent Culver's two hits and two runs scored, while Nick Godwin notched a big two-RBI single to break the game open in the sixth. Jordan Nichols started on the bump for the Falcons and went three innings without giving up a hit and striking out three. Ben Stewart replaced him for the fourth and fifth innings, hurling two scoreless frames to earn his first collegiate win. The combination of Chase Peiffer, Matt Wright, Ethan Hess, and Drew Betz combined to throw the final four innings, only allowing three hits.
Medaille took two games from SUNY POLY, 3-0 and 11-1, as Peter Grunzweig and Sal Carroccia tossed complete game gems and were complimented by Dominick Teoli's offensive onslaught. Grunzweig shut out the Wildcats with a complete game two-hitter, striking out five. Carroccia won for the third time with a complete game five-hit , three strikeout performance. On the day Teoli led the way going 5-for-7 with five RBIs. Stephen Kemp scored a total of four runs and Jared McStine was 4-for-7 over the two game set.
Jared Witner and Justin Cherry did not allow an unearned run Thursday morning as Elizabethtown defeated Monmouth (Ill.), 7-3, in game one of a doubleheader at the Lawnwood Complex. The Blue Jays couldn't quite make it all the way back from a 3-0 deficit in the afternoon game, losing 3-2.
Starting pitcher Trey Sledge struck out 10 Albion batters over seven innings as the Lynx tallied 13 hits in their 6-0 victory. Rhodes improves to 11-7 on the year. Sledge struck out the side in the third and sixth, catching the final Albion batter in each inning looking. On the day, Ryan Palermo went three-of-three with a double, two walks, two runs batted in and a run scored.
Bridgewater finished its spring break trip on a winning note with a 15-4 victory over Penn State-Berks. Austin Batten was 4-for-5 with five RBIs to lead the offense. Michael Morgan was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Jacob Talley finished 3-for-5 with one run batted in. Jacob Grabeel went 3-for-5 with three RBIs while Phillip Herber was 2-for-6 with three runs batted in. Ian Mayes worked the first five innings to pick up the victory on the mound. He allowed two runs on just three base hits.

SUNY Maritime swept a pair of games from the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen at the Bob Gladwin Complex in central Florida. The Privateers picked up a walk-off win in game one by a 6-5 score, before holding off a late Lebanon Valley rally in game two, hanging on for the 6-4 win. On the day Maritime was led by senior Chris Deddo and freshman Shane Sullivan, with three hits apiece including a pair of two-baggers off the bat of Deddo, who also led the team with four runs scored. Six other Privateers had multi-hit days including junior Joe Scerra, who had a team-best four RBIs, while sophomore Antonio Diaz drove in a pair on the day.
Sophomore Chase Williams came around to score after pinch-running in the 11th inning on a throwing error by the Pride shortstop helping the DeSales snap a three-game skid with a 6-5 win in 11 innings over Widener. Senior Andrew Schuler earned a tough luck no decision pitching six strong innings allowing just one earned run, striking out four. Sophomore PJ Elsner earned the win pitching two scoreless innings, striking out one.
Saint John's (Minn.) improved to 7-1 with a doubleheader sweep of Defiance, 12-4 and 4-0. Junior centerfielder Max Jackson went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in game one, while senior second baseman Brennan Swan and junior outfielder Jack Wingerd each went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
After a day off from competition, Bethany Lutheran continued play against Rockford. The Vikings swept the Regents, winning game one 6-3 and winning game two 6-2. In game one, the Vikings used back-to-back three run innings to defeat the Regents. Bethany was down 3-0 heading into the fifth before scoring three runs to tie the game. They followed up with another three-run inning in the sixth to win the game. In game two, Bethany grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back. The Vikings would extend their lead to 3-0 in the sixth and then finished off with three more runs in the seventh.
Neither the weather in central Florida nor the play of ninth-ranked Concordia-Chicago were what one has come to expect in recent springs as the Cougars took on Coe of Iowa. The temperature at 9:45 this morning for first pitch was an unseasonable 54 degrees, never to warm up significantly during the game. The Cougars then saw nearly all of a 9-2 lead disappear before locking down their fifth win of the season with five late insurance runs to defeat the Kohawks 14-8 in Auburndale.
Heidelberg scored early and often, racking up 21 runs in a win over Thiel. The Student Princes pounded out 15 hits and grabbed 14 free bases in the 21-5 drubbing of the Tomcats. Joey Rydzewski had a season-high four hits on the afternoon. The whitewashing allowed Heidelberg to deploy 25 players into the game. In addition to Rydzewski, three others had multi-hit days -- Parker Fronk, Matt Psychas and Darrin Shirk, each with two hits. Fronk drove in four, while Rydzewski and Evan Long each plated three.
Behind solid pitching and the Griffins reaching the 20-hit mark for the second straight game, as Fontbonne cruised past Montclair St., 11-3. The Griffins, were led by Jackson Penrod at the dish as he went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Evan Siegler and Gus Purschke each had three hits, while Jonathan Hoevelmann, Michael Puckett, Jr., and Brandon Hinson scattered two hits each. Ryan Schocker, Matt Tossick and Purschke also finished with two RBI. On the bump, Luke Summers got the win after going 6.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and struck out three. The duo of Brett Lange and Cole Lankford dominated out of the pen to close it out.
After falling to New England College 15-1, Chatham bounced back with a 12-11 victory over Dean. New England College had home runs off the bats of Justin Carey, Evan Delaney, and Xavier Nunez as the Pilgrams sored 15 times on fifteen hits. The Cougars ripped 15 hits of their own against Dean as sophomore Drew Brannon went 3-for-6.
Freshman pitcher Mike Smith picked up his first collegiate victory as the Washington College baseball team topped Delmarva rival Wesley, 11-3, in a non-conference game at Athey Park. Smith pitched six inning, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks. He struck out five. Nick Popolizio picked up the save with three perfect innings. The Shoremen scored the final 11 runs of the game and finished with 12 hits.
