Case Western Reserve opened its 2018 season with a pair of victories on Saturday, claiming an 11-inning 7-2 victory over fourth-ranked Washington and Jefferson in the early contest, and following up with a 6-2 triumph over Allegheny in the late game in Washington, Pennsylvania. The Spartans' day was paced by a strong performance from their pitching staff, which allowed just three earned runs on 12 hits over 20 innings, including eight scoreless innings with just two hits allowed by the bullpen during the two games combined. At the plate, Rocco Maue led the way, going six-of-nine with four runs scored and three doubles, while Jacob Pestel added four hits in 10 at bats.
Patrick Schetter drove in four runs, including a go-ahead three-run double in a four-run seventh inning, as No. 1 Cortland rallied past Rutgers-Camden, 5-2, on day one of the Baltimore Invitational, hosted by Johns Hopkins. The Red Dragons will close the tournament Sunday with games versus Frostburg State and the seventh-ranked host Blue Jays. Schetter finished 3-for-5 with two doubles.
Rutgers-Camden couldn't have faced a much tougher schedule than the two games it played in their opening day. After a loss to the nation's top-ranked Division III team, Cortland State, in their opener, the Scarlet Raptors bounced right back with a big 11-2 win against host Johns Hopkins, the No. 7-ranked team. Rutgers-Camden scored single runs in the first two innings, rode the outstanding seven-inning performance by senior starter Carter Fichter and pounded out 14 hits in their big win over the Blue Jays. Rutgers-Camden received a 4-for-6 game from freshman first baseman R.J. Concepcion, who not only notched the first four hits of his collegiate career, but also added two runs, three RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.
No. 20 Methodist collected 18 hits and plated 14 runners in a 14-4 victory against N.C. Wesleyan in USA South action. Tyler Brown tossed 6.0 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts to become the second starting pitcher in the rotation to four wins. Thomas Dean pitched 1.0 inning and scattered one hit, while Seth Beard threw the final 2.0 innings and did not allow a hit and struck out one batter. Mattias Carter, Davis Cass, Alex Kachler and Clay Richardson all recorded three hits on the day. A total of six Monarchs recorded multiple RBI.

No. 16 Roanoke used 14 hits and three big innings to score a 13-3 win over Muhlenberg in game one of the doubleheader. The Maroons then capped the sweep of the doubleheader by taking a 12-4 win over the Mules in game two. Sean Guida had five hits on the day, scoring five times and driving in three.
Hendrix hit the road, taking on the No. 14 Panthers of Birmingham Southern in a SAA Conference match-up. The Warriors fell in game one 6-2; however, Hendrix would take away BSC's chance at a sweep with a 5-4 win in game two. Game one saw the Panthers go nuts at the plate, putting up multiple runs in the first three innings. This would be too much for HC to overcome as they would fall 6-2. Game number two was a back-and-forth affair that came down to one swing of the bat. After Birmingham Southern jumped out with three runs in the bottom of the second, the Warriors got four back in the top half of the third. A Seth Tucker double scored JR McAuley to get the scoring started. Drew Judson would cross home plate to put the Warriors ahead in the top of the eighth, and give them the game two 5-4 victory.
Trinity's 15th-ranked baseball team bounced back from its first loss of the season to defeat MIT 7-3. The second game of today's doubleheader was cancelled due to rain. Kevin Flores went the distance for the Tigers on the mound, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out 10 batters.Rafe Chaumette had just one hit on the afternoon, but he made it count in a big way by hitting a grand slam home run that put Trinity on the board. Logan Morrison had two of Trinity's seven hits in the game, going 2-5 with a run scored. Michael Goodrich was 1-2 with two walks and a run scored.
Baldwin Wallace senior All-OAC catcher Trent Kaltenbach delivered a two-run double to cap off a three-run ninth inning comeback to defeat No. 22 St. John Fisher at the Chain O' Lakes Park. Baldwin Wallace defeated St. John Fisher by a final score of 6-5. At the plate, Chase Knodle led the Yellow Jackets with a 3-for-4 day with two runs and two RBIs. Sophomore infielder Jacob Bonner had a double and a solo home run and Phillip Wells also had two hits.
Behind Cameron Jack's strong game one outing and a clutch RBI from Mark Audet in game two, George Fox took a doubleheader over Pacific. Jack's day was done after seven and third innings. The righty gave up four hits and struck out six on his way to picking up his third win in as many decisions. In game two, Kyker Brudwick's big double in the tenth was one his two hits in game two and set up Marc Audet with the opportunity to drive in the game-winning run. Turner Glenn turned in a solid 2 for 3 performance that included an RBI, and Matt Voelzke returned and picked up his second win on the mound.
