In a 5-3 win for Keystone over Cabrini in game one of the CSAC tournament on Wednesday at Christy Mathewson Field, Keystone head coach Jamie Shevchik got a brilliant pitching effort from freshman Nathan Hinkley. He came on in relief and did not allow a hit over four innings as Keystone improved to 30-9. The Giants will now advance to play a winner's bracket game against Gwynedd Mercy. Gwynedd Mercy knocked out a season-high 19 hits to storm past Neumann, 14-6. The two winners will open the CSAC action on Friday morning at Owls Field at Ted Palka Park in West Lawn, Pennsylvania. Cabrini, in just its second season of intercollegiate competition and playing in its first post-season tournament game, fell to 20-18 and will play Neumann.
With a three-run bottom of the eighth the top-seeded Beacons of UMass Boston opened the 2018 Little East Conference Tournament with a 7-3 win over the sixth-seeded Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth Wednesday afternoon at Monan Park to open the Little East Conference Tournament. In game two. Jordan Muchin and Sam Kosterich combined on a six hitter as Eastern Conn. State defeated Plymouth State 4-1. Plymouth State opened an early lead but ECSU answered with four unanswered runs to advance in the winners bracket. Rhode Island grabbed an early 4-1 lead over Southern Maine as the game was stopped after five innings due to fog. The game will be finished on Thursday morning before the regular schedule. Following the completion of game three will be an elimination game with the three winners getting afternoon starts.
Senior pitcher Tommy Parsons broke his own school season strikeouts benchmark, sophomore Brady Wood went 2-for-5 with four runs batted in, and the nationally-ranked Adrian opened the 2018 MIAA Tournament with a 9-2 victory over visiting Calvin. The Bulldog will play Alma as the Scots out-dueled Hope to a 10-8 victory. Sophomore Max Trucks provided the heroics for the Scots, going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and four RBIs. Trucks hit a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth to put the Scots ahead for good, while senior Ben Finzel sealed the game with a diving defensive stop in the top of the ninth to prevent a run and record the final out.
Junior Phil Pierfy hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th inning, driving in the game winning run as Arcadia moves past Penn. State–Harrisburg, 14-12. Penn State-Harrisburg score three runs in the seventh, tying the game at nine. Both teams added three runs apiece in the ninth, sending the game into extras. The Lions head to the CAC final rouns and Arcadia rounds out their regular season schedule as it hosts the Centennial Conference Champion, Swarthmore.
