Love heads Aggies program

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University is pleased to announce that John Love has been named the new head baseball coach of the Aggies. He replaces Bob Altieri, who retired after 19 years as head coach but will remain at his equipment manager position at the institution.

It is the first head coaching job for Love who will move to the area from Hershey, Pennsylvania for the position.

“I am honored for the opportunity to lead the baseball program at Delaware Valley University,” Love said. “I am looking forward to meeting the players, connecting with the alumni and continuing the proud tradition of Aggie baseball.”

Love has been coaching since his graduation from Juniata College in 2011. He began his career as an assistant at Hiram College in Ohio for three years and was also the head coach of a travel team in the area. Love moved onto Central College in Iowa and was there from 2014 to 2016. He organized and oversaw all aspects of the pitching staff and guided a freshman to the conference’s Pitcher of the Year award.

Love then spent two seasons as an assistant at fellow Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) school Lebanon Valley College. He was in charge of the pitching staff and the 2017 squad reached the MAC Commonwealth tournament. This past summer, he spent time as an assistant for the Strasburg Express of the prestigious Valley Baseball League and was set to begin a stint at York College of Pennsylvania when the head coaching opportunity at DelVal became available.

Love earned a bachelor of science degree in sport management and education from Juniata, where he was a baseball and football student-athlete and entered the baseball record books in a number of categories. He was then awarded his Master’s in interdisciplinary studies from Hiram in 2014.

“We’re excited to welcome John Love to the DelVal family,” Aggie director of athletics Steve Cantrell said. “John has nearly a decade of coaching and recruiting experience and he is fully committed to continuing a strong tradition of baseball at DelVal.”
