Kehew hired to lead Becker

More news about: Becker | Salve Regina

LEICESTER, Mass. – Brian Kehew has been named the head coach of the Becker College baseball program as announced by Director of Athletics Frank Millerick on Monday.

"I am thrilled that Brian Kehew has accepted our offer to be the next Head Baseball Coach at Becker College," commented Millerick.  "He is a proven coach at the collegiate level and brings a wealth of experience to Becker."

Kehew joins the Hawks with six years of coaching experience, having coached for Salve Regina University, the Ocean State Waves (NECBL), and the Naval Academy Preparatory School.

"I am excited that Coach Kehew will be joining our team and look forward to working with him as he further strengthens the Becker baseball program," stated Millerick.

"I am very grateful and excited for this opportunity to serve as the head baseball coach at Becker College," said Kehew.  "I appreciate the trust Mr. Millerick and his staff have placed in me to lead the baseball team. I couldn't be more thrilled to become a part of the Becker College community and Hawk Athletics."

Kehew mentioned, "I was drawn to Becker because of the great people and the core values of the college.  As the baseball coach, I will help my student-athletes become the best versions of themselves while preparing them to be leaders and contributing members of a global society."

"I intend to build a program that will receive national recognition," stated Kehew.  "This will be a process with many benchmarks along the way.  It all starts by competing within the conference and getting Becker College back to the NECC Championship."

Most recently, Kehew coached at Salve Regina University where he trained, developed, and prepared the baseball student-athletes for a high level of competition.  He acted as the recruiting coordinator as he scouted and recruited talented and projectable high school baseball players.  Other duties included maintaining statistics and records, performing administrative and operational tasks, and assisting with fundraising, alumni outreach and community service initiatives.

Kehew was instrumental in the recent success of the Seahawks baseball program.  The team won the Commonwealth Coach Conference (CCC) tournament championship in 2016 and 2017, and earned regular season championships in 2017 and 2018.  He has coached 11 All-New England players in the past four years, including one All-American.  In 2017, the team was ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 12 in the nation while holding nationally-ranked statistics in both pitching and offensive categories.

"I look forward to incorporating everything I learned at Salve Regina about developing a successful baseball program while teaching my own unique brand of the game," said Kehew.

In addition to coaching the notable Seahawks baseball program, Kehew is presently the pitching coach for the Ocean State Waves, a New England Collegiate Baseball League (NEBCL) team.  There, he oversees the strength and conditioning of all players and uses advanced training techniques and video analysis to develop pitchers.  In 2017, the team compiled the best record in the league and was nationally ranked as high as No. 1 in the country for collegiate summer baseball.  In total, Kehaew has coached over 25 players with the Ocean State Waves that have been drafted by Major League Baseball (MLB).

Prior to his start with the NEBCL team, he was the head coach of the Naval Academy Preparatory School.

"I would like to thank Eric Cirella, Steve Cirella, and Matt Finlayson for the invaluable learning experiences they provided, and of course, my family, for their unwavering support," concluded Kehew.

Kehaw, a Portsmouth, R.I. native, earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville in 2011.  He continued his studies at the University of Central Florida and received a Master's Degree in Sport and Exercise Science in 2012.
