The Mountaineers traveled to Brownwood, Texas for a Wednesday non-conference doubleheader against Howard Payne. Schreiner won the first game 12-11, before falling 2-9 to the Yellow Jackets in the second game. Rey Garza picked up his 1st collegiate win in the game. Josh Gilliam, Jeffery Williams, and Ben Benavides each contributed three hit performances of the 15 hit offensive showcase. The second game started off much like the first with Schreiner going ahead early in the second inning but the Jackets put up a 9 spot in the third inning and kept the Mountaineers at bay for this rest of the contest only allowing one more run the rest of the way.
Ryan Grannemann and Nick Mosele had big days at the plate Wednesday and freshman Bryson Prusator finished up with 4 2/3 strong innings of relief, as Augustana downed Bates 11-8 at Chain of Lakes Park. Grannemann finished the day 5-for-5 with two runs scored and two driven in. Mosele was 3-for-5 with one scored and three knocked in. Each had a double and a homer.
After rain forced a pair of schedule changes, University of the Ozarks (3-4) traveled to Conway to take on Hendrix in a midway, in-state showdown at Warrior Field. Hendrix's Andrei Stoaynow made his collegiate start against the Eagles. The freshman right-hander tossed six innings of work, fanned a career-best 13 Eagles and took a no-hitter into the third inning to land his first-ever victory for the Warriors. Ozarks recorded just two hits on the evening as Hendrix won its fifth consecutive game, 7-0, after tallying three runs in the second inning and one run in each of the next three innings. The 6-1 start is the best start to a season since former head coach William Headrick's 1917 club opened up 7-1 and finished the season 9-4.
McMurry handily won a nonconference matchup at Walt Driggers Field, topping Dallas Christian College, 9-1. The War Hawks (4-3) used a committee of pitchers to shut down the Crusaders, with both right-hander Derek Hostas and left-hander Dylan Yaws pitching three scoreless innings. Hostas put the Crusaders down in order with four punchouts, while Yaws allowed just one hit and one walk for the win.
Woods Field produced its first exciting game of 2019 as East Texas Baptist earned their fourth win on a balk in the bottom of the ninth inning over Millsaps, 4-3. After a bunt and a throwing error put two runners on second and third base, Millsaps recorded a balk as Dylan Sumpter came across home plate as the winning run. Sumpter would be the spark plug for the Tigers with three hits and two runs batted in while Brady Faulkner added two hits and Seth Mikeska delivered a crucial home run.
Taking advantage of a four-run third inning and standout pitching effort, LeTourneau took a 7-3 road victory over Centenary (La.) at Shehee Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. LETU earns their first win over Centenary since April 26th, 2012 and wins their third straight to move to 3-4 overall while the Gents now sit at 3-6 overall. For the YellowJackets six pitchers combined on the victory while allowing just seven hits and one earned run. Jacob Sreinman earned his first collegiate victory after tossing two innings and allowing one hit as no LETU pitcher would throw more than three innings.
