Senior Dominic Fusco struck out the final three Leopards in each game as WPI held off Wentworth Institute of Technology in a pair of one-run victories, 10-9 and 6-5, Wednesday at the RussMatt Invitational. The Engineers improve to 5-1 on the year as the Leopards slip to 2-4. Five of the six batters went down swinging and Fusco picked up his second and third save of the season. His first was in the Monday's eye-opener versus Waynesburg, where he also struck out the side.
Three players had three hits for Gwynedd Mercy in a 13-3 victory over RPI at Lake Myrtle Complex. With the win, the Griffins improve to 3-5, while the Engineers drop to 2-3. Griffins starting pitcher Bryan Kaelin (1-2) allowed just three runs (2 earned) on eight hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out one and walked three. Matt Pallotta worked the final 2.1, surrending a single hit with three strikeouts. The Griffiths followed this with an 8-3 victory over Wartburg in the nightcap for their fourth win in a row.
Oglethorpe played well at a frigid Anderson Field, knocking off their crosstown rivals, Emory, 6-3 on a night where the temperatures fell into the 30s during the game. The Stormy Petrels used a four-run fifth to push an early 1-1 game in their favor and improved to 5-7 on the young season. Alec Babb went 2-for-4 on the night with three RBIs and two runs scored. Andrew Mink went 2-for-4, as well, with a run scored.
Fontbonne' offense scored early and often in the 12-2 (7 inn.) win over Penn St. Brandywine to improve to 8-0 on the year. In the first, the Griffins put the game away early scoring eight runs on four hits. Alex Phillips improved to 2-0 on the year after allowing two runs on four hits and striking out five. Tyler Chambliss led at the dish going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a season-high three RBI.
The Maryville College diamondmen completed the sweep of Wittenberg with a 5-4 victory over the Tigers on MC's Scotland Yard. The eventual game-winning run was scored in the fifth inning when Nelson Smith sent Peyton Sawyer homeward with a single through the right side of the Tiger's infield. Isaac Wiley started for the Scots allowing four hits over 4.1 innings of work. Tyler Stubbs earned his first collegiate mound victory allowing just one hit over 3.2 innings of work. Samuel Joiner tallied his second save of the season after striking out a pair in the ninth. Maryville's 11-hit offensive attack was paced by four Scots getting a pair of hits each. Christian Poulsen (2-for-4), Peyton Sawyer (2-for-4), Nelson Smith (2-for-4), and Logan Hayes (2-for-4) led MC at the plate.
Saint John's (Minn.) continued its winning ways with a pair of victories in Ft. Myers, Fla. Junior pinch-hitter Joey Stock gave the Johnnies (6-0 overall) a thrilling 10-7 win over Thiel with a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning in the day's first scheduled nine-inning game. Senior Jake Dickmeyer followed that excitement with a gem on the mound, allowing three hits with a career-high nine strikeouts in a complete-game, 6-0 shutout of Otterbein later in the afternoon.

LaGrange had a season-high five doubles in a come-from-behind 7-4 win over Roanoke at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers improved to 10-4 with their fifth win in the last six games. The Panthers had 12 hits in the game with five different players getting two hits. Rhett Hollon's two hits were both doubles. Cael Chatham, EJ Churchich, and McKinley Erves each had a double included in their two hits. Churchich and Joe Ruth each had two RBIs. Ruth is tied for first in the USA South with 18 RBIs. LC used six pitchers in the game. Michael Menheart started and allowed three runs in 1-1/3 innings. Anthony Elias threw 2-2/3 scoreless innings. Coston Anderson (1-0) picked up the win, giving up a run in 1-1/3 innings of work. Gibson Bittner, Tanner Chafin, and Spencer Douches shut out the Maroons (2-6) over the final 3-2/3 innings. Douches earned his first save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Alvernia (5-2) scored five runs in the first inning in a 16-5 win over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (4-1) at the Player Development Complex. Colin Rieger went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Golden Wolves and drove in four runs to lead the Alvernia offense. The senior outfielder also launched a 2-run home run to add on in the fourth. Six of the nine starters in the Alvernia lineup had at least two hits in the game. Alvernia finished with 20 base hits as a team reaching the 20-hit plateau for the first time since a 30-hit outburst against Rivier on March 8, 2017--a game also played at the PDC. Brian Kane earned the win going seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Frank Merlino and Matt Brennan threw an inning each to close out the game.
Penn State Altoona overcame a 6-1 deficit, coming back to defeat Clark 8-7 at Lake Myrtle Park in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Wednesday's game was the continuation of Tuesday's contest, which was halted after one-and-a-half innings due to rain. Penn State Altoona (2-5) trailed 6-1 after five innings, but the Lions capitalized on opportunities to plate seven runs over the next four innings, surging past Clark (1-3) to grab the victory.
Misericordia edged Baldwin Wallace, 5-4, in Port Charlotte, FL. Steve Weisensee led the Cougars with four hits and Billy Kerwien, Austin Miles and Brady Madden all had two hits. Dalton Emerich worked two innings in relief of Taylor Price to pick up his first win and Alejandro Santiago pitched the ninth inning to earn his first save. Price struck out four and scattered eight hits over six innings.

Trine captured a 3-2 win against DeSales in walk-off fashion on a fielders choice with bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. The game was Trine's second nine-inning game of the day as the matchup against the Bulldogs was rescheduled from yesterday due to rain. Earlier junior Jake Roddy had three hits to go along with three RBI and a run scored as Trine defeated Illinois College 11-6.
Sophomore Issac Spiegel and freshman Spano combined on a three-hitter to lift Muhlenberg to a 3-2 win against Grove City and a split of its two games in Florida. In the morning game, the Mules (4-2) fell to Bridgewater, 12-6. Spiegel earned his first career win, striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings in his second career start. He retired 10 straight batters in one stretch and allowed only one earned run. Spano was magnificent in his first career appearance, becoming the third different Muhlenberg pitcher to earn a save this season. He took over with the tying run on third in the sixth and got the final out, then faced the minimum nine batters over the final three innings, striking out four of them.
Freshman Corey Cochran was magnificent in game two as the Rivier Raider earned a non-conference doubleheader split, 2-8, 7-0, against Baruch down in Fort Myers, Florida. The Raiders are now 1-5 on the season while Baruch opens their season at 1-1. The Raiders managed just four hits off of Baruch starter Ryan Warner (1-0). Sophomore Frederick Kazalski went 1-for-3 with a RBI and senior Jorge Martinez added a sacrifice fly in the loss. A four-run sixth propelled the Raiders to their first victory of the season as the offense backed the pitching of Cochran. The freshman right-hander made his collegiate debut on the mound and did not disappoint. He spun a complete-game, two-hit shutout striking out three and issuing five walks.
The York College baseball team got six strong innings from Brandon Haggerty and the Spartans held on to defeat a scrappy John Jay squad 9-6 in their third game of their trip to Myrtle Beach. The Spartans are now 4-0 all-time against John Jay. The York hitters were walked nine times which is the highest total this season and the most walks since they walked nine times nine games ago against Frostburg State last April. sophomore Brandon Haggerty picked up his first career win as a starter after winning four times out of the bullpen a season ago
