| Oberlin opened the season with a sweep of Capital at Dill Field, winning both games by 8-7 counts with game two being called in the bottom of the eighth inning due to darkness. It was an impressive collegiate debut for freshman Jacob Thompson (pictured) as he powered the Yeomen lineup by going 6-for-9 with two home runs, a triple, five RBIs, and three runs scored, totaling 14 total bases on the day. In their final game of their Florida trip, John Carroll defeated the Bulldogs of DeSales University on Saturday morning. John Carroll came into today with a 4-3 record during their Florida trip. Hoping to keep their record above .500, the Blue and Gold sent Mitchell Midea to the mound. Midea struck out five of the last seven Bulldogs he faced to ensure that he would only allow three total runs over his six innings of work. The last three hitters in the Blue Streak line-up helped turn the top well, going 6-10. Derek Penmann, Christian Cassaro, and Matt Springer had two hits apiece.
Bryan Smith got three big hits late in the game, including the walk-off single, as Occidental beat Whittier 3-2 in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Anderson Field. Smith, who played right field, was 3 for 5 with a run scored and the biggest RBI of the game in the bottom of the ninth, lining a single to shallow center field that brought home Antonio Andrade to win the game. Andrade finished the day 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run sccored.
Mass-Dartmouth sophomore Logan Maitland logged a complete game shutout, sitting down 11 Knights on strikes while yielding just three hits to give the Corsairs their first win of the 2019 season with a 6-0 triumph over Wartburg in game one of the doubleheader at Osceola Heritage Park #4. The Knights would avenge their loss in the latter contest, however, edging the Blue and Gold by a 5-4 tally in extra innings.
Covenant salvaged a doubleheader split at Averett in USA South action. The Scots dropped an 11-inning contest, 11-10, in the day's first game before responding with an 8-4 victory in the finale. Covenant goes to 8-6 on the year and 3-2 in USA South play. Averett is now 3-14 overall and 2-7 in league action.
Bates won a pair of non-conference games, defeating Salem State 11-0 and winning in walk-off fashion 5-4 over Nichols at the New England Baseball Complex. Junior captain Jack Arend went 4-4 at the plate and sophomore Christian Beal homered and drove in three runs to lead the Bates baseball team to an 11-0 win over Salem State. with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth and the Bobcats prevailed 5-4 over Nichols.
La Roche opened their spring trip with a 14-7 victory over Susquehanna. The Redhawks will complete their two-game series with the Riverhawks tomorrow. Joe Professori got on base five times and finished just a triple shy of the cycle. He scored four, hit in four, and stole a base. Jonathan Melendez had 2 RBIs, scored twice, and swiped a bag. Austin Hoffman and Jon Spina had two runs. Tre Thomas earned the victory after allowing two earned runs in five innings. Jake Seymour and Chris Hanlon each tossed an inning of scoreless relief.
Scranton opened its spring break trip to Florida by splitting a pair of games. The Royals (1-3) rebounded from a 27-8 setback to fifth-ranked Swarthmore in Saturday's opener to defeat Marietta 6-4 in the nightcap for their first victory of the season. Scranton scored four runs in the first two innings of Saturday nightcap against Marietta and made it them stand as the Royals defeated the Pioneers (0-2) 6-4 for their first victory of the season.
Exploding offensively with 26 runs scored, Castleton earned a doubleheader sweep over Bard - 13-4 and 13-7 - at Honey Field. Castleton moves to 4-4 overall with the sweep, while Bard falls to 2-3. Leading the way for Castleton, Davis Mikell continued his absolutely scorching start to the season with a 7-for-7 performance at the plate during the doubleheader. The two-time reigning Little East Player of the Week collected three walks, scored eight runs, drove in four and tallied five extra-base hits while raising his slash line to .600/.657/.967.

Muhlenberg completed its best Spring Break trip in six years, sweeping Marymount 3-0 and 5-4 on its final day in Florida. Pitching again paved the way for the Mules (6-3), who allowed more than five runs in only one of their nine games on the trip. Junior Matthew D'Ambrosia struck out 11 in pitching a two-hit shutout in the opener, while sophomores Paul Poppert and Truman Devitt combined on a six-hitter in the nightcap. They were backed by senior Jon Capra, who hit a home run.

William Paterson (3-0) crossed the plate six times during the middle three innings to hand Wheaton, Mass. (2-1) it first loss of the season, 11-10, at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Steve Yelin finished 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Jordan Manne picked up the win in relief (1-0), allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks, striking out two over 3.0 innings. Senior Eric Rosenberg struck out three during 1.2 innings of work for his first save of the season.

A pitcher's duel and the offensive showcase were on display in Wesley's doubleheader split with the CCNY Beavers. The bats woke up in the finale of the doubleheader with Wesley able to outlast CCNY, 12-9 for their first victory of the season.
Denison improved to 6-1 after a doubleheader swheep of Wilmington at Bob Wren Stadium on the campus of Ohio University. Denison took game one by a final score of 7-3 behind a stellar pitching performance by Danny Brackman. In game two, the Big Red prevailed 16-8 in a slugfest as the two teams combined for 30 hits, 24 runs while 47 different players took the field. Senior centerfielder Nick Pettigrew had an outstanding day at the plate. Combined, he was 5-for-7 with two home runs, four RBIs and six runs scored. He also stole a base and walked once.
Ramapo opened the 2019 season with an 8-0 win over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) at Caven Field. With the non-conference victory, the Roadrunners stand at 1-0 while the Bears move to 1-1-1 overall. Junior starting pitcher CJ Growney (1-0) fired a four-hit shutout in six complete innings of work while he collected six strikeouts in his first win of the season. Senior Kyle Haag worked the final inning for Ramapo as he struck out all three batters he faced.
Pacific Lutheran started their series against crosstown rivals Puget Sound in marathon fashion, besting the Loggers 11-9 in a 13-inning showdown. It wasn't until the 13th inning that the Lutes decided that the game had gone on long enough. A Tori Doten single to left followed by a walk to Austin Gormley and a single from Jordan Haworth loaded the bases for Jacob Bockelie, who singled to drive Doten in to retake the lead. To secure the win, Gormley went in to score on a wild pitch right after, taking the Lutes to the final score of 11-9.

Henry DeCaster pitched into the eighth inning for his first win of the season as St. Thomas scored a 6-4 win over Aurora (Ill.) in non-confernece Division III baseball Saturday morning in Tuscon, Ariz. The Tommies (2-0) came back to win 13-2 over Carroll (Wis.), led by a strong start from Grant Gunderson. Kyle Halverson and Dan Bollingberg each had four hits on the day to led a 24-hit day for St. Thomas.
WPI accumulated 37 hits in a pair of shutouts of Husson at the RussMatt Invitational. The Engineers (9-1) won the opener 8-0 and the spring break finale by a count of 22-0. Senior Ryan Tropeano, junior David Larson, graduate Student Matt Howard, senior Josh Herlands and freshman Martin McCormack all clubbed a pair of hits in the first game while junior Tyrone Patterson registered a team-best three hits in the nightcap. The second game also saw Tropeano, Howard, Herlands, McCormack, as well as, junior Nick Wright, senior Steven Gallagher and freshman Andrew Brooks all chip in with a pair of hits. Larson and senior Tyler Weiss struck out 10 in their respective six-inning starts as junior Keith Scales and senior Dominic Fusco made a relief appearance, respectively.
Methodist won the front end of a USA South Conference doubleheader against host Berea, 6-4, while the nightcap was postponed until Sunday following a rain delay. At the time of the delay, the Monarchs were leading Game 2, 5-1 in the top of the second inning. An excellent outing by Will Walker earned a victory for the Monarchs in the first game. Walker pitched 8.2 innings in relief, including seven straight scoreless innings. Prior to a two-run Mountaineer outburst in the ninth inning, Walker had allowed only four hits and no runs. At the plate, Alex Kachler had two hits and scored two runs, leading the Monarchs.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, Ben Closson hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Josiah Nowak and giving the Houghton Highlanders a 12-11 victory over the Wilkes Colonels. After the Highlanders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, the Colonels tied the score with two runs in the third and another in the fourth. But in the bottom of the fifth David Wessells led off with a towering homerun to right, igniting the Houghton bats. The Highlanders would score six runs on six hits and send 10 batters to the plate in the inning. Trailing 9-3, Wilkes refused to quit, tacking on two runs in sixth, four more in the seventh, and eventually took the lead, 11-10 in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, Ben Closson and Wayne Rode hit back-to-back singles and Caleb Philips walked to load the bases with one out. A deep fly ball to right field from Jeremy Newswanger would score Closson to even up the score. Working on only two days rest, Philips took the hill in the ninth and held the Colonels scoreless for the first time in four innings, stranding runners on first and second. A walk, a bunt single and a hit-by-pitch quickly loaded the bases for the Highlanders in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Closson drove the 2-1 pitch into centerfield and Nowak slid past the catcher with the winning run.
After dropping a 3-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning, Stevens Institute rallied to defeat Middlebury in 10 innings Saturday evening in a non-conference contest at Dobbelaar Field. The Panthers were able to tie the game in the ninth inning when Ryan Hanrahan singled up the middle to bring in Brooks Carroll before Henry Strmecki scored on a sacrifice fly by Gray Goolsby to give Middlebury the lead. With Stevens down 4-3 in the bottom of the 10th, sophomore Charles Kwong doubled to left field to get on base in hopes to be the tying run. Senior Donny Gherardi hit a line drive past the third baseman into left field, allowing Kwong to advance to third. Sophomore J.C. Hanley came up to the plate following a strikeout by Colin Waters (0-1). The Carmel, Indiana native flied out to left field, but was able to bring in Kwong for the tying run. After making the out, Justin Han threw the ball into Hayden Smith at third base, who turned and fired over the top of second baseman Andrew Gough's head, allowing Gherardi to sprint past second and third to score the winning run of the game.
