Washington College improved to 7-0 on the season for the first time in 79 years by sweeping Marywood in a doubleheader on Monday at Bob Gladwin Baseball Complex in non-conference action. The Shoremen overcame a 4-0 deficit to win game one, 5-4, and overcame blowing a four-run lead to grab game two in eight innings, 7-6. The Pacers fall to 0-4. In 1940 the last time Washington started 7-0, Washington College downed Hartwick (6-5), Loyola (Md.) (9-1), Dickinson (4-1), Lebanon Valley (8-4), Maryland (3-1), Easton (8-6) and Gettysburg (2-0) in winning their first seven back in 1940.
No. 5-ranked Swarthmore proved its worth on Monday, knocking off No. 1 Wooster 13-6 with two big rallies late in the game. Trailing by a run headed into the seventh inning, The Garnet scored five in the seventh and six in the eighth put the game away, giving the top ranled team a 0-1 start to the season.
Three pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout as Rochester Tech defeated New Jersey City, 9-0, in game three of the NJCU spring trip at the RussMatt College Spring Break Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park on March 11. It was game one of a split-site and opponent doubleheader. RIT (2-4) had three pitchers combine for 11 strikeouts as the Gothic Knights (0-1) were one-hit for the first time since March 7, 2006 in game two of a doubleheader vs. Bluffton University (4-0 loss) in Florida. Sophomore left-hander Collin Reformat went the first 5.0 innings, striking out six while walking five over 86 pitches to win (1-0). Freshman righty Jon Opalewski went 3.0 innings, allowing the lone hit—an eighth-inning one-out double to senior shortstop Nick LoGatto. He struck out four. Freshman righty Matt Vitro threw a scoreless ninth with one strikeout. The Gothic Knights won their second game of the day, a 5-1 win over Concordia-Moorhead.
Webster continued its hot play in the Sunshine State as the 15th-ranked Gorloks continuned play in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational by posting a 12-5 win over Rhode Island College at the Osceloa Heritage Park Stadium. With the win, Webster extends its win streak to three straight games and improves its record to 7-2 on the season, while RIC suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 3-1. Much like Sunday's 12-2 win over Ohio Northern, Webster had to rally from an early deficit in Monday's game as they trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning, but scored 12 of the next 13 runs, before RIC tallied a run in the top of the ninth to complete the scoring. Monday's game was a sloppy affair as the two teams combined for five errors, 13 walks, 13 pitchers and nine hit batsmen, including junior centerfielder Aron Hopp getting hit twice by pitches. In addition to Hopp, senior rightfielder Nate Tholl, redshirt junior designated hitter A.J. Smith and sophomore shortstop Matt Staker were also hit in the game.

No. 2 Rowan held on for a 3-2 win at Stevenson. Third baseman Victor Cruz and left fielder Dan Shane led Rowan with two hits apiece. Shane had one RBI. Catcher Steven Hewa and shortstop Dillon Mendel each had one hit and scored a run. Designated hitter Mitch Walker chipped in one hit and two RBIs. Right-hander Danny Serreino pitched the first four innings, striking out five and allowing no runs. Left-hander Drew Ryback picked up first win on the mound, throwing four innings and fanning three batters. Righty Andrew Cartier closed the game in the ninth and picked up his first save on the season. He finished with two strikeouts and gave up two hits.
Freshman Jared Strickler was impressive in his collegiate debut picking up the win as Marietta defeated Susquehanna, 13-3, in the Snowbird Baseball Classic. Strickler (1-0) tossed 7.0 strong innings in his first start scattering seven hits. He allowed three runs, walked one and struck out five. John Stover struck out four of the seven batters he faced over the final 2.0 innings. Marietta banged out 13 hits and took advantage of three River Hawk errors that led to seven unearned runs. Catcher Brady Cottom led the Etta Express attack with three hits, one double and three runs batted in.
Ferrum picked up a pair of non-conference baseball wins at home over Wilmington (Ohio), winning the opener 16-5 and taking the nightcap 8-1 at Panther Field. Josh Greenway went 5-8 with three doubles, two runs and six RBI in two games, while Tim Ortega closed the day 4-8 at the plate with two doubles, a homer, four runs and six RBI. Drew Calohan (3-2) pitched six innings with 11 strikeouts to get the game one win, while Carlton Redd (1-0) pitched five innings to earn his first win in the nightcap. Kasey Bottorff had four base hits in two games for Wilmington.
New York University defeated Farmingdale State 8-7, at MCU Park in Brooklyn. NYU (5-0) led 8-0 heading into the ninth inning, but the Rams (2-1) scored seven runs in the final frame to make the final margin one run. Sal Cammisuli tossed 6.1 scoreless innings to earn his first victory of the year. The junior scattered four hits and a walk while striking out three.
The Baruch Bearcats finished their annual trip to Florida on a winning note with a 5-1 victory against Vassar. The Brewers from the Liberty League Conference struck first in the fourth inning on a bases loaded walk, but the Bearcats quickly responded and took control the rest of the game. Davic Capellan tied it in the bottom fourth on a sac fly RBI and Kevin Sengara followed with an RBI single for a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. Capellan had another sac fly RBI in the sixth inning to increase the advantage to 3-1. Captain Michael McGroarty smacked an RBI single in the seventh and Sengara had another RBI single in the eighth to round out the win. JP Ramirez started and struck out seven in the opening four innings. Theodore Avgerinos earned the win with five innings of scoreless relief on seven strikeouts.
Case Western Reserve picked up a 6-2 win over Oglethorpe at Anderson Field in Atlanta, Georgia to complete a two-game sweep of the Stormy Petrels. The win was the fourth straight for the Spartans, who improved to 4-3 overall on the year. Oglethorpe dropped to 5-11 on the campaign with the loss. Freshman southpaw Nick Denove picked up the first win of his collegiate career, improving to 1-1 on the campaign with the victory. The starter scattered eight hits and two walks over six innings on the mound, but allowed just one run and struck out three batters.
The floodgates opened on the Corsairs in extras as Mass Dartmouth yielded six runs in the tenth, but the Blue and Gold flexed its resiliency by hanging seven on the board to seize a 13-12, come-from-behind, four-and-a-half-hour victory over Illinois Wesleyan at Osceola Heritage Park #1. Junior Nate Tellier capped the comeback off with a walk-off single to help the club improve to .500 (3-3) on the young season, simultaneously revising the Knights' mark to 4-3.
Ithaca improved to 2-1 during its California trip with a 10-4 victory over Pomona-Pitzer at Alumni Field. IC avenged its 1-0 loss from two days ago against the Sagehens as senior Adam Gallegher belted two home runs with four RBI in the win. Gallagher went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs, while Cam Fuoti was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run scored.
Seniors Josh Goulet and Ryan Boldwin each blasted home runs as Plymouth State split a seven-inning doubleheader with FDU-Florham at Player Development Complex. Goulet extended his hot start to the season with his fifth bomb of the year as the Panthers took the opener by a 13-8 score. FDU-Florham got revenge in the second game, rallying for three runs in the top of the seventh to win 8-7. Plymouth State built a 9-2 lead over the first two innings of game one. The Devils put up four runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-6, but PSU tacked on three more runs over the final two innings to keep the game out of reach. Game two was a back-and-forth affair. Boldwin’s blast gave the Panthers a 3-0 first inning lead, but Florham scored four times in the third to pull in front, 5-4. PSU tied the game in the fourth and the Panthers went up 7-5 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Devils came back with a three-run seventh to steal the win.
After opening up their six game Florida trip with a big offensive output yesterday, No. 13 Concordia-Chicago took to the field today against St.Scholastica. The Cougars picked up their fourth straight win by a 3-1 score behind seven strong innings from Kyle Strepek. Strepek worked seven shutout innings allowing just four hits while striking out 11. Cole Carman picked up the first save of his career working around a two out double in the ninth. Jose Mercado continued his season opening run, collecting three more hits on the day. Brody Mariotti added to his team leading RBI total with a two RBI single in the fifth.
Pitt-Bradford took the field for the first time during its nine-game slate in Florida , splitting a doubleheader with Rockford. Pitt-Bradford stormed to a 12-4 victory in game one then fell 5-3 in game two. Matt Hair led the Panther offense in game one, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs while Kevin Rehak doubled twice and drove in two runs.
Trinity (Conn.) scored eight runs across two innings to come back from an early 4-1 deficit, ultimately winning 12-7 over the MIT Engineers at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium in Hartford. The win is Trinity's second in a row to begin the 2019 season after defeating No. 8-ranked Southern Maine on Saturday. MIT falls to 1-2 on the year. Sophomore Max Barsamian picked up the win, tossing 1.2 innings of relief while striking out three. Senior tri-captain Erik Mohl also came out of the pen and threw 2.2 innings, striking out four and allowing just a pair of hits.
