Dallas gets upset, Marietta and Westminster too

The Lewis and Clark Pioneers beat the Whittier Poets with a final score of 14-7. The Pioneers had three home runs, and a total of 12 RBIs in the game. This was one of the best performances behind the plate for the season. Only seven of the Pioneers struck out behind the plate, and they only left five runners stranded on base. The Pioneers pitching only allowed one homerun, and they struck out three Whittier batters. The Pioneers had a total of 12 hits with 14 runs for the game which was one of the best performances this season. Matt Donovan and Tyler Gannon lead the Pioneers with three RBIs a piece.

University of Dallas upset No. 5 Texas Lutheran 4-3 after Jessup Scott drove in the game-winning run with a base hit to right field to complete the 12-inning walk-off victory. Scott helped lead the charge on the day with three RBI including a game-tying home run in the seventh inning. Dallas pitching was excellent as Andrew Magness pitched a career-high nine innings and held the Bulldogs to six hits and three runs along with a personal-best eight stikeouts. Jamie Wallace pitched the final three innings allowing no hits and no runs with just one walk given up to lead the Crusaders to its first extra-inning win since 2017.

Marietta sophomore pitcher Dalton Wiggins celebrated his birthday by shutting down No. 24 ranked Heidelberg University in the Pioneers' 3-1 win Sunday (March 31) afternoon at Don Schaly Stadium. The Student Princes salvaged a split with a 7-4 win in the second game. Wiggins (1-4) started and went 6.1 innings for his first win of the season. He scattered six hits and allowed just one run. In game two Keaton Mark had three hits, including a single for the first run in a three run fourth where the Student Princes took the lead for good.

The 23rd ranked UMass-Boston Beacons combined for eight extra base hits as they ended their two-game skid with a 15-10 win over Salve Regina Sunday afternoon at Monan Park. Originally scheduled to two nine-inning games, Sunday's contest were shortened to a pair of seven-inning games, and then to just one game due to heavy rains in the forecast that would have soaked Monan Park for the remainder of the day. Kyle Boudrias led UMB's offense as the senior finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI and a double.  Anthony Cecere was the lone Beacons to record a homer, while Eddie Riley finished with a double and triple.

Webster opened up its three-game SLIAC series against Westminster (Mo.) by splitting a doubleheader against the Blue Jays at Saucier Field on the Westminster campus. In Sunday's opener, Westminster picked up a 3-1 win that was pitchers duel between Webster sophomore Sean Beaver and Westminster's Ian Cassidy, while the Gorloks rebounded to post a 14-2 win that was called after seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule in the nightcap. The 14 runs in the nightcap were a season high for the Gorloks, who improved to 14-6 overall and 4-3 in the SLIAC, while Westminster, who were playing their first two home games of the season, fell to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Three runs in the top of the 10th inning helped Washington & Jefferson secure a 6-3 victory over Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at West Field in Munhall. The victory gives W&J the three-game series sweep of Chatham. The win also extends the Presidents' current winning streak to 10 games, which matches its longest winning streak since the 2017 season. Offensively, Justin Griffin paced the Presidents by reaching base four times, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks. Dante Dalesandro also added two hits during the win.

Coe brought out the bats in the first game then used a stellar pitching effort in game two to record a doubleheader sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan in American Rivers Conference action in Lincoln, 15-4 and 4-1. During Steve Cook's 23 years as head coach of the Coe team, he had never seen a pitching performance like what he saw Sunday from Zach Kammin. The junior struck out 17 Nebraska Wesleyan batters on his way to a complete-game four-hit effort in Coe's 4-1 win in the second game of the twinbill. The 17 strikeouts is a single-game high during Cook's tenure.

Augustana scored 14 runs for the second time in three games and Sam Cregan threw his second complete game of the season Sunday as Coach Greg Wallace's club downed North Park 14-4 in a mercy rule-shortened contest at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field. The host Vikings improved to 13-5-1 on the year and 3-1 in the CCIW, while the visiting Vikings dropped to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the league. Cregan scattered 10 hits and allowed no earned runs to get his third win in as many decisions this year. He walked two and fanned two.

Willamette  players Cole Pursell and Sam Hudd each belted a home run, as the Bearcats rolled to a 9-3 victory over Pacific at John Lewis Field. Pursell blasted a two-run shot in the first inning to give Willamette an early lead, while Hudd provided a three-run homer in the sixth inning to give the Bearcats a 7-0 lead.

Bard was swept by RPI on Saturday, leaving the Raptors with a 1-5 conference record. They played with desperation and precision on Sunday, riding solid pitching and good defense to a sweep of RPI and a crucial split of the series. Bard won game 1, 5-3, behind a great pitching performance from freshman Evan Matthews. Bard was outhit, 14-5, in game 2, and won the game anyway. Bard starter Frank Ortega (2-2) was in trouble frequently but the Engineers never really got to him. leaving 15 runners on base. Estaban Rivera went 4-for-11 in the series with a homer, two triples, six RBI and three runs scored.

The Bethany Lutheran Vikings split wins with Simpson. The first game was a 7-6 close loss for the Vikings, and the second game was a 15-11 comeback victory for the Vikings. The win puts the Vikings record at 6-11. Simpson opened leads in both games but it was the 11 run instead of the 1 run lead that proved to be the shakiest of the two as the Vikings scored 15 unanswered runs to salvage the split.

USMMA closed out the month of March with a pair of Skyline victories over Yeshiva on Senior Day at Lower Roosevelt Field. The Mariners won the first game, 29-2, and took the second by the final of 9-1. With the wins, Merchant Marine improves to 14-7 (6-2 Skyline), while the Maccabees fall to 1-15 (0-10 Skyline).  The Mariners stole a total of 12 bases in first game, with six coming in an eight-run first inning. Sophomore Vincenzo Alteri led all players with four swipes, while classmates Alex Mesaros and Colin Baker had two apiece. In game two, the Mariner swiped six more by Zach Coutts (3) , Matt Mundorf (2) , and Zac Skov.

Sophomore lefty Graham Laubscher allowed no earned runs in his first career nine-inning complete-game victory as St. Thomas (Minn.) scored a 3-1 win over Bethel to cap Sunday's road doubleheader sweep in conference play in Arden Hills. St. Thomas won the opener 6-4, with sophomore transfer Andrew Tri getting his first save. Ryan Lust, Dan Bollingberg and Kyle Halverson combined for 11 hits and seven RBI in the sweep for the Tommies (10-3 overall, 2-0 MIAC). Lust hit a two-run homer and drove in a last-inning insurance run in the opener. He scored an insurance run in the ninth inning of game two with a single, stolen base, a ground out, and Adam Krajewski's two-out single.

Senior Donny Gherardi and freshman Sutton Dole each registered home runs as Stevens split an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader against St. John Fisher at Dobbelaar Field. Anthony Brophy (1-0) earned the win in relief after allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings in a game that saw the score tied or a lead change on seven occasions. In game two, Ryan Larsen struck out eight batters in six innings to record his second win of the year.

Rhodes improves to 15-13 on the season after winning the rubber match at Sewanee. The Lynx are now 7-5 and have won each of their last three SAA series matchups. On the mound, Nick Bosma earned the win after pitching 6.2 innings. Alex Garrett picked up the save after coming in with the tying run on deck in the seventh. He threw 2.1 innings without allowing a hit. Jacob Telli's triple is the fourth for the Hendersonville, Tenn. native in five games. Paul Giacomazzi went 3-for-5 in the game while Heurtin and John both tallied two RBI.

Northland continued their series vs. Robert Morris- Peoria in a doubleheader in Normal, IL. The Jacks would pick up the sweep, winning both games by scores of 18-9 and 8-1. Shawn O'Connell and Garrett Warren would lead the Jacks at the plate with three hits a piece in game one. Riley Reuter would pitch a gem in game two for the Jacks, pitching the complete game as he only gave up 4 hits and struck out 5 in 7 innings of work. Noah Cross would go a perfect 4-4 at the plate, leading all LumberJack hitters in the nightcap.
