No. 10 Southern Maine pounded out 40 hits and scored 37 runs en route to sweeping Western Connecticut State, 13-2 (8 innings) and 24-7 (7 innings), in the teams'  Little East Conference opener Sunday afternoon at DiBenedetto Stadium on the campus of Trinity College. Junior right-hander Ben Lambert hurled seven shutout innings in the opener to earn his second win of the season.  Junior Anthony Degifico put the 10-run rule into play with his first career home run, a grand slam, in the eighth inning. In the nightcap, the Huskies overcame a 7-5 deficit after four innings by scoring 19 runs over the next three innings.  The Huskies tallied three in the fifth inning to take the lead, then pulled away with eight runs in the sixth and eight more in the seventh.  Senior Zach Quintal drove in eight runs with two doubles, a triple and a grand slam home run. The sweep extends the Huskies' winning streak to five games, and improves their record to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in LEC play.  The Colonials have dropped their last five to slide to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Webster completed its three-game SLIAC weekend series with Eureka by posting an 11-2 win over the Red Devils in the series finale at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. With the win, sixth-ranked Webster improves to 13-5 overall and 3-2 in the league, while Eureka falls to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the league. In addition, the win also extended the Gorloks home win streak in conference play to 11 consecutive games dating to last season. In Sunday's series finale, Webster's offense recorded 16 hits, including a career-best four hit game by sophomore shortstop Matt Staker and scored 11 runs, all of which came in the middle three innings of the game. For the three game series against Eureka, Webster's offense came alive as they recorded 40 hits, scored 25 runs, hit 11 extra base hits and had 25 RBI and hit .412 as a team. Meanwhile, Webster's pitching was also strong as they posted a team ERA of 1.57 for the weekend.

Tufts collected 13 hits and ended their 10-game spring break road trip with a 7-3 victory at #5 Randolph-Macon at Estes Park. Peter DeMaria recorded four hits, drove in two runs and scored two. With the game tied at 3-3 in the top of the seventh, Tufts scored three runs off Randolph-Macon senior pitcher Patrick Solomita. Jumbo junior Justin Mills opened the inning with a walk and reached second base off a sacrifice bunt from junior Elias Varinos. Senior Casey Santos-Ocampo slapped a single through the right side of the infield to advance Mills to third base. Sophomore Ryan Daues drove in both runners with a double to left-center to put Tufts up 5-3. Daues then scored on a single from freshman Peter DeMaria to give the Jumbos a 6-3 edge. Tufts would add an unearned run in the ninth.

No. 15 UW-Whitewater mashed 17 hits Sunday to earn its second straight win, a 14-4 victory over Kalamazoo at the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park. Seven players finished with multiple hits for the Warhawks (3-4 overall), who jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back. Senior second baseman Nick Schrader tallied three hits, four runs scored and two runs batted in, and senior third baseman Cal Aldridge registered three hits, including two doubles, to go along with one run scored and three RBIs. Junior pitcher Riley Gruetzmacher picked up his first win of the year, allowing only three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four in six innings of work. Junior Larkin Hanselmann tossed the final inning in relief.

No. 20 Salisbury completed a weekend sweep of Capital Athletic Conference opponent Frostburg State, winning both both ends of its doubleheader by scores of 11-10 and 12-6. In a close game one, Ron Villone, in the eighth inning, gave Salisbury the lead for good with a two-run single up the middle, scoring Matt Padeway and Trent Saunders. Zach Amisano (4-0) earned the win, pitching seven strong innings that included a pair of strikeouts and only two earned runs. Matt Grogan and Robbie Hollenbeck combined to close out the game in the ninth inning.

UMass-Boston Beacons cruised to their first Little East
Conference sweep with an 11-2 win in the nightcap as
they handed Keene State College their first two LEC losses
of 2019 Sunday afternoon at Monan Park.

Piedmont completed the sweep of Berea with a 14-1 win in seven innings. The win marked the 10th time this season Piedmont has scored in double digits and gave the Lions their 20th win of the season. Brady Ballstadt was a perfect 4-for-4 in the game and was a homerun away from the cycling getting a single, double and triple in order in his first three at bats. Of Piedmont's 15 hits, eight were for extra bases.

No. 21 Babson scored in the bottom of the 10th inning in game one and rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth in game two to sweep visiting Clark in a NEWMAC doubleheader at Govoni Field. The Beavers (8-2, 2-0 NEWMAC), who have now won seven consecutive games, took the opener 1-0 before rallying for a 9-8 victory in game two. The Cougars, who have dropped six of their last seven games, slip to 7-9 overall and 0-2 in league play. Senior Michael Genaro allowed just two hits while recording a season-high nine strikeouts over 9.0 innings, and the Beavers scratched out the only run of the game in the bottom of the 10th to win their conference opener. Junior Jake Oliger went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI, senior Edward Lehr  had three hits and scored three times, and junior Sean Harrington drove in a pair of runs for the Green and White. Max Tannenbaum (2-0) worked the ninth inning to pick up his second win of the day as four Babson pitchers combined to strike out 10 Clark hitters.

Coming off a Saturday split with No. 23 Birmingham-Southern, Hendrix looked for its third consecutive conference victory of its 2019 campaign with a rubber match against the Panthers Sunday. BSC enjoyed a three-run lead before a three-run fifth inning tied the game up. A timely hit by Josh Walker in the eighth proved to be score the eventual go-ahead pair of runs as Hendrix held on to a 7-4 conference win over BSC. The Warriors improve to 19-7 overall with a 6-3 mark in Southern Athletic Association play while BSC drops to 18-7 overall and 5-4 in conference. Hendrix is currently second in the SAA regular season standings; one game back of Berry for first place.

Outscoring the Seahawks by a final count of 50-3 over the three-game CAC series this weekend, the second-ranked Christopher Newport baseball team was dominant on both sides of the ball as they improved to 17-2 overall, 6-0 in league action. The Captains defeated St. Mary's (Md.) twice by scores of 19-2 and 13-0. The powerful Captains offense scored 50 runs in the three-game league series for the second straight weekend, after outscoring Frostburg State 50-24 last weekend. CNU has now scored 100 runs in six CAC games for an average of 16.7 runs per game against league opponents. The wins extended CNU's win streak to eight as Christopher Newport has scored in double figures in six of those eight wins. For the season, the Captains have scored in double figures in 13 of the team's 19 games and are averaging exactly 12 runs per game this season.
