COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Visiting Washington College swept host Ursinus in a Centennial Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Thomas Field in the season's final two road contests for the Shoremen in 2019.  The Shoremen held off a bottom of the ninth inning rally by the Bears in game one to prevail 6-4 and exploded for 16 runs in a 16-1 second game triumph.  The Shoremen improve to 27-12 overall and 8-9 in the Centennial, while the Bears fall to 18-17 and 7-10 respectively.  The game one win was head coach Cory Beddick's 100th career victory and the team's 27 wins are the second most single-season victories in the history of the Shoremen Nine.

Washington College 6 Ursinus 4 (Game 1)

How It Happened
- Washington took the lead in the top of the second inning as Luke D'Ostilio scored on a one out groundout by CJ Gillmer for the game's opening run.
- Ursinus tied it in the bottom of the second as Will Peiffer tripled down the right field line to score Tom Jacobs with one away to knot it at 1-1.   
- Tommy Buckman delivered a two-out RBI single to left-center in the top of the third to drive in Chris Baker to put WC ahead for good at 2-1.
- The Shoremen plated a pair on consecutive two out RBI doubles in the top of the fourth to extend their advantage to 4-1.  Baker's two-bagger to right scored Gillmer and Ryan Zwier's double to right plated Baker.
- Jerry Scavone scored on a one out fielder's choice off the bat of Peiffer to trim the deficit to 4-2 in the last of the sixth.
- In the top of the seventh, Washington got a two-out base hit to right-center by Jack Kingman that chased in both Aaron Barclay and Zwier that made it 6-2.
- Down to their last three outs, the Bears did not go quietly in the last of the ninth and had the winning run at first base before the rally came up short.  Dom Fiorentino led off the ninth with a solo home run to right to lead off the frame.  With two outs, Jacobs singled to left to score Carter Usowski to reduce the lead to 6-4.  Following a Peiffer walk to load the bases, Beddick summoned Ethan Kile in to face Ursinus' Eric Gross.  Kile got Gross to hit a comebacker to end the game.

For The Shoremen (26-12, 7-9 CC)
- Hitting: Baker (3-for-5, two runs, two steals), Buckman (2-for-3, RBI), Kingman (two RBI)
- Pitching: Mike Smith (win 7-2, six innings, seven hits, two runs, two earned, two walks, five strikeouts), Kile (save 1, 1/3 inning, retired hitter on groundout)
- Washington had 10 hits, had one hitter reach via hit by pitch and drew five walks, while leaving eight on base.
- The Shoremen had one error in the game, but did not lead to a run for Ursinus.

For Ursinus (18-16, 7-9 CC)
- Hitting: Jacobs (2-for-3, two walks, run, RBI), Scavone (2-for-4), Usowski (2-for-5), Fiorentino (2-for-5, home run), Alex Mumme (2-for-5)
- Pitching: Nick DeFeo (loss 3-1, 6 1/3 innings, nine hits, six runs, six earned, four walks, six strikeouts)
- The Bears had 12 hits, drew five walks, had a player get on via hit by pitch and left 13 on base.
- The hosts committed one error in game one, but did not lead to a run for the Shoremen.

Washington College 16 Ursinus 1 (Game 2)

How It Happened
- Mumme scored in the bottom of the first to give the Bears a 1-0 lead as he scored on a failed pickoff attempt with two away.
- Washington would score the game's final 16 runs, the first three coming in the top of the fourth.  With one out, D'Ostilio tied the game on a single to left that chased home Zwier.  With two away, Gillmer poked a base hit through the right side to drive home Barclay and D'Ostilio to put the visitors ahead for good at 3-1.
- Two frames later, WC blew the game open with a five-run outburst.  With one away, Baker singled to right-center to chase in D'Ostilio to make it 4-1.  Two batters later with two outs, Baker parked a three-run home run over the right field fence to make it 7-1 as scoring ahead of him were Kingman and Gillmer.  Two hitters after the homer, Zwier doubled home Buckman on a two-bagger to right to cap the scoring in the inning.
- In the top of the ninth, the Shoremen scored eight times and sent 17 men to the plate in their final trip to the dish on the day.

For The Shoremen (27-12, 8-9 CC)
- Hitting: Baker (2-for-6, home run, five RBI to set career-high), D'Ostilio (3-for-5, three runs, three RBI), Zwier (3-for-4, two runs), Gillmer (3-for-4, four RBI), Barclay (two runs)
- Pitching: Ethan Osgood (win 5-1, career-long seven innings, six hits, one unearned run, one walk and  personal-best 10 strikeouts)
- Washington had 15 hits, drew six walks and had a season-high five get on via hit by pitch, while leaving nine on base.
- The Shoremen had one error in the game, leading to the Bears' run.

For Ursinus (18-17, 7-10 CC)
- Hitting: Mumme (2-for-4, run), Jacobs (2-for-3)
- Pitching: David Drea (loss 1-3, 3 1/3 innings, two hits, three runs, three earned, two walks, two strikeouts)
- The Bears notched seven hits and drew a single walks as they left six on base.
- The hosts had zero errors in game two.

Notes
- The 27 wins are the second most in team history, trailing the 2012 team that won 28.  The 2012 edition went 28-12 and reached the Centennial Conference Tournament final.
- Beddick won 50 games at Hood prior to his arrival in Chestertown and won his 50th game at Washington in just 78 contests.  He is now 51-28 in his two seasons as the skipper of the Shoremen Nine. 
- The Shoremen had their 12th game of 10 runs or more in game two and the team is a perfect 12-0 when they score in double digits.
- Barclay moved into a tie for most games started by a Shoreman at 144 as he tied Nick Marinelli '14 for most career starts by a Washington player.  He also moved into a sixth placed tie with Scott Quinn '97 for total bases at 221 and a seventh placed tie with Mike DeBartolome '07 for career hits with 149,.
- D'Ostilio moved into 10th place all-time in career base hits with 142.
