The Mountaineers defeated SCAC opponent #6 Texas Lutheran 7-6 in 21 innings during their second game of the series at Bob Henry Field on Saturday afternoon. This game tied 4/22/11 Oglethorpe vs. Rhodes as the longest game in SCAC history. The team recognized the 2019 senior class prior to the start of the game.
No. 7 Babson College piled up 25 runs and got strong pitching performances from senior Michael Genaro and sophomore Ben Aleixo on its way to sweeping a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference doubleheader against Emerson College on Saturday afternoon at Govoni Field. The Beavers routed the Lions 16-1 in the opener and followed it up with a 9-2 victory the nightcap. With the wins, Babson improves to 28-5 overall and 15-2 in conference play to grab a share of its third consecutive NEWMAC regular season title. Emerson closes its season at 7-27 overall and 2-15 in the league.
No. 10 Salisbury completed a sweep of Southern Virginia, winning both sides of doubleheader by scores of 14-9 and 7-2. In the opener, the Sea Gulls found themselves down 6-1 in he middle of the fifth and outscored their opponent 13-3 the rest of the way for a comeback win. Xavier Marmol (8-1) continued to show his dominance on the mound, picking up his third consecutive win. The freshman southpaw tossed 7 1/3 innings, striking out eight total batters and allowing only four hits and two earned runs in the nightcap. With today's victories and a Christopher Newport University loss to York College of Pennsylvania, the Sea Gulls clinch the top seed in this year's Capital Athletic Conference tournament set to kick off next weekend. Zack Durant allowed one run over six-plus innings and struck out nine batters as Cortland, ranked 22nd nationally in Division III, defeated Brockport, 6-2, in a SUNYAC contest. The game was moved from Friday afternoon to Thursday evening and was relocated from Brockport to Newark's Colburn Park due to rain in Friday's forecast. Cortland improved to 27-9-1 overall and 16-0 in SUNYAC play. Brockport is 15-18 overall and 6-10 in the league. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Brockport Saturday at noon to close out each team's SUNYAC regular-season schedule. Durant, now 6-2 on the season, allowed four hits and four walks to earn the win. His nine strikeouts match his season high. Isiah Hudson, the fourth Cortland reliever, entered in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and two outs and two runs already in and the Red Dragons leading 5-2. He struck out a batter to end the inning and allowed only one hit over the final two frames to earn his second save. Hudson finished with three strikeouts and no walks.
Led by another stellar hitting performance from Nick Herzog, UMass-Boston earned an 8-6 win in 10 innings in game one before cruising to a 10-1 win in the nightcap as they swept Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon at Pontarelli Field in a Little East Conference doubleheader. With the sweep, the Beacons remain in second place in the conference standings with just three games remaining in the regular season. If UMB wins their final three games and if Plymouth State sweeps Southern Maine in the final doubleheader of the regular season, the Beacons would win the regular season title for the third time in the last four seasons. On the day, Herzog could not be stopped as he crushed three home runs, to go along with six RBI, six hits, and four runs scored.
Two comebacks and two one-run wins completed No. 10 Chapman's sweep of Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. The Panthers used the dramatic finishes to further their lead in the SCIAC standings and come within a game of clinching the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament. Senior Tyler Peck continued his streak of dominant performances with his fourth consecutive double-digit strikeout game. He became the eighth Panther in Chapman's Division III history to surpass 100 strikeouts in a season and now sits at fourth on the leaderboard with 110 strikeouts this year. He needs 24 more to break the single season record. Peck was dominant from start to finish. He was perfect in his first trip through the order but gave up a leadoff single in the fourth. He fanned 11 batters, walked none and allowed just two hits. The Sagehens scored twice but only one run was earned. In game two, with the bullpen cruising, the Panthers pulled off another late comeback win and swept the season series.
Senior right-hander Nick Roth fanned 11 in 7.0 innings in the opener on Senior Day, and junior outfielder Shawn Nickles homered twice and knocked in six in the nightcap as 20th-ranked Randolph-Macon swept an ODAC doubleheader from Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon to clinched the ODAC regular season title for the second straight season. Roth allowed eight hits and three runs with no walks. He raised his record to 8-0 this season and 24-2 for his career. Roth is the program's career wins leader. Randolph-Macon will conclude the regular season hosting nationally-ranked Christopher Newport on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. The Yellow Jackets will host a best-of-three series for the first round of the ODAC Tournament next weekend.

No. 4 Rowan split a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader at Montclair State University on Saturday. The Profs won 18-3 and lost to the Red Hawks 7-1. The Brown and Gold are 28-8 and have a 13-4 conference record. Right fielder Eric Schorr totaled six hits in the win against Montclair State. He also added two runs batted in (RBI) and two scores. Designated hitter Mitch Walker and catcher Steven Hewa contributed four hits apiece. Walker scored three runs, while Hewa crossed home five times and had three doubles. Third baseman Nick Schooley produced three RBIs.
On a day of celebration for legendary head coach Tim Pettorini, 15th-ranked College of Wooster rallied back twice for a pair of exciting wins over ninth-ranked Denison at Art Murray Field, and in doing so, the Fighting Scots took over possession of first-place in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wooster surged past Denison 16-9 in game one and went on to post a 6-5 victory in the nightcap. Wooster's (21-8, 11-1 NCAC) biggest individual nugget of the afternoon came in the fourth inning of game one. That's when senior Garrett Crum logged the 12th 20-game hitting streak in program history with his two-out double. The standout first baseman went on to tally five more hits in the sweep to up his average to .563 (49-for-87) during his 21-game run. The senior's knocked in 33 runs and has scored 26 times during his streak.
The No. 8 TCNJ Lions battled Kean in an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at George Ackerman Park. Prior to the doubleheader, the Lions honored their eight seniors with an on-field ceremony. A pitchers' duel between TCNJ's Peter Nielsen and Kean's Tyler Hopman had a hectic ninth inning with a bizarre ending. The teams were tied, 2-2, heading into the ninth inning when Kean's Nick Pollizano homered to lead off the top half. The Lions, who scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score thanks to Matt Giacose's two-run double, had just two hits off Hopman heading into their last chance in the ninth. The Lions didn't need another hit to win the game. Jacob Simon reached on an error to lead off the inning, and Tommy McCarthy bunted him to second. A groundout put Simon at third, and Giacose followed with a walk. That brought Joe Oczkowski to the plate with runners at the corners, and it also brought that bizarre finish. Giacose took off for second on a stolen base, and the throw went through to the bag. The only problem, at least for Kean, is that nobody covered the bag. The ball rolled into centerfield, allowing Simon to score to tie the game. With the ball still rolling into the outfield, Giacose got up and took off. He rounded third and headed for home, beating the throw to the plate for an improbable 4-3 TCNJ victory. The offenses took over in the second game. The teams combined to hit eight home runs in the game as Kean won 14-12.
Franklin & Marshall's team clinched its second consecutive Centennial Conference playoff bid with a split against No. 21 Johns Hopkins on Saturday in Baltimore. The Diplomats, who moved to 25-13, 11-6 CC on the year, outslugged the Blue Jays (27-10, 13-4) by a 14-7 margin in game one before falling 15-0 in game two. F&M can still enter the Tournament as high as the No. 2 seed with a win against Ursinus tomorrow at Caplan. The Blue Jays clinched the top spot and will host the Centennial tournament.
