Westfield State and Framingham State advance in MASCAC tourney

Senior Dugan Darnell went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and earned his sixth save of the season, and junior Brady Wood collected four hits, as top-seeded Adrian spotted Alma a 3-0 lead before coming back to win 7-5 over the Scots in the opening game of the 2019 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

Westfield State sophomore starter Shane Bogli tossed seven shutout innings to lead the way as top-seeded Westfield State rolled to a 10-2 win over #5 Bridgewater State in the MASCAC tournament. With the win, the Owls advance in the winners' bracket and will play Framingham State tomorrow at Bud and Jim Hagan Field in Westfield. Bridgewater State (17-21) slides into the losers' bracket and will play an elimination game against Fitchburg State tomorrow at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H. Framingham State defeated Fitchburg State, 8-6 in 12 innings today in the other half of the MASCAC Tournament bracket which was played at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. The MASCAC tournament opened with two play-in games. The Framingham Rams received a complete game performance from senior Kyle Hodgson, who went nine innings allowing two earned runs on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts, in a 10-2 win to make the double-elimination tournament. Bridgewater State ended Salem State's playoff bid 14-5.

and Mike Sorowice. The Highlanders will
travel to take on the Keystone Giants in a three game
series for the CSAC title over the weekend. Game one
will be Friday afternoon, before a Saturday doubleheader.

Junior Danny Brown's walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning, led second seeded UMass Boston past riva UMass Dartmouth 2-1 on Day 1 of the 2019 Little East Conference Tournament. Senior closer Bobby Tramondozzi earned the win after throwing the final 3.1 innings and allowing just two hits, one walk and striking out five. Earlier, senior Devin Warren went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of triples and an RBI, and sophomore righty Joshua Joy pitched a strong six innings to lead the top-seed Southern Maine Huskies to a 5-3 win over the sixth-seeded Castleton Spartans in the first game of the 2019 Little East Conference Baseball Championship at Ed Flaherty Field. Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut State closed out the day in a game won by the Anchormen 5-4.

Mitch Shedlowsky was able to wiggle out of a bases loaded jam in seventh inning, but Kellan Huang was unable to do likewise in the eighth. Nick Lepore's two-run single drove in the decisive runs as Hope rallied for a 7-5 victory over Albion in an opening round game in the MIAA tournament. The loss sends Albion (22-19 overall) to an elimination game against Alma College, a 7-5 loser to Adrian.

Swarthmore College extended its win streak to six on Wednesday with an 11-5 win over Cabrini University at Clothier Field. The Garnet (25-12) handed the Cavaliers their ninth loss of the season. Cabrini has 31 wins. Swarthmore now has three games remaining on its schedule with the hope that victories in those games will be enough to catapult them into the NCAA Tournament. The Garnet play at Clothier again on Friday against Misericordia (32-10). The Garnet had 21 hits on Wednesday, eclipsing the 20-hit mark in a game for the sixth time this season. Eight Swarthmore players had a multi-hit game. Senior Charles Levitt, junior Holden Bridge, sophomore Michael Sepe and freshman Luke Mutz all had three.

Roger Williams defeated Bates 9-4 on a Wednesday afternoon in an added game of their regular season. TYler Cedeno, Chris Bosco, Ben Bonavita, Joey Gulino, George Somers, and Tyler Brett all went 2 for 4 on the day. Craig Demers recorded the win earning one strikeout and only allowing one walk. RWU (20-17-1) will play Salve Regina (25-15) in the CCC Championship at home starting on Friday.
