Rhodes Lynx opened up their play at the Rhodes Classic as they took on the No. 18 team in the nation, the Coe Kohawks, Friday afternoon. The contest was dominated by two impressive starting/relief scoreless pitching performances, until junior shortstop Will Huertin walked the game off, in dramatic fashion, with a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Lynx their fifth straight victory.

Stevenson opened its season by splitting a pair of games at the Bison Baseball Classic at Hoy Field.  The Mustangs exploded for 16 runs in the first inning en route to a 31-5 win over the host Bison in the opener, then fell 5-2 to Gwynedd Mercy in the second game. Stevenson (1-1) opened wth 16 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

An eight-run eighth inning catapulted North Central College to a 12-2 victory in the season-opener against Blackburn at Itchy Jones Stadium on the campus of Southern Illinois University. Austin Polezoes earned the victory after going six innings, allowing all four of Blackburn's hits in the one inning, while striking out a pair and walking none. Joe Kaminski earned the save in his first collegiate appearance, entering the game in the seventh with the score 4-2 and did not allow a hit over his two frames, also striking out a pair.

No. 2 Webster opened its 2020 season by scoring five runs in the 10th inning to earn an 8-3 victory over Transylvania at Stauffer Field on the campus of Rhodes. With the win, Webster has now won seven consecutive openers since suffering a 3-2 loss at WashU to open the 2013 season, while Transylvania falls to 0-1 on the year. The Gorloks led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Pioneers scored three unearned runs thanks to two hits and two Gorlok errors to tie the game and force extra innings. It was the first extra inning game for the Gorloks since playing a 10 inning game early last season against Buena Vista. Webster, though, would come right back in the top of the 10th inning as they took advantage of two errors, two walks, a wild pitch and two hits to plate five runs and take an 8-3 lead.

Texas-Dallas continued its early season offensive onslaught, and got a solid start from junior Blake Birdwell, to pick up an 9-4 win over Hardin-Simmons in the 2020 home opener at the UTD Baseball Complex. The game, which was the first American Southwest Conference contest of the season, was the first of three between UTD (4-3 overall, 0-1 ASC) and HSU (0-7, 0-1) this weekend. UTD pounded out 13 hits, took advantage of four walks, five hit batters and two HSU errors to score in all but two innings. The only blemish on the Comets' first home game of the season were a pair of 8th inning errors that led to three unearned HSU runs. UTD also stranded 14 baserunners in eight frames.

He retired the fist 11 batters he faced before giving up a double into the left field corner in the fourth. A lead off chopper down the third base line in the fifth was perfectly place for an infield hit but that was all the Leopards' bats could muster.

Matthew Williams reached double-digit strikeouts for the second straight outing and became the winningest pitcher in program history after notching the 28th win of his career as No. 23 Concordia Texas blanked Belhaven 8-0 in their first conference game of the season. Williams entered the day tied with Chema Chavez (2001-04) for the most wins in school history, sitting at 27 for his career. The Austin, Texas native showed no nerves and left no doubt on the mound as he tossed 7.2 scoreless innings, allowed only five hits and set a new career-high in strikeouts for the second game in a row, finishing with 14 on the day. The win makes Williams the winningest pitcher in program history, reaching the historic milestone in 53 appearances, including 44 starts in his career.Down 11-5 in the seventh inning,

Pfeiffer came back from a 3-0 deficit to down No. 15 Adrian 4-3 in the series opener for both teams from a chilly Joe Ferebee Field. Pfeiffer would push across the eventual game-winning run in the eighth when catcher Jake Brown reached on an error and would advance to third after Kyler Fairchild doubled to left field, putting runners on second and third with one out. Blake Winebarger ripped a single through the right side that drove in Brown, giving Pfeiffer the 4-3 lead. Pfeiffer then sat the Bulldogs down in order in the ninth, with Josh Topper striking out the final Bulldog batter to end the game.

A pair of sixth inning rallies lifted Centenary to a doubleheader sweep of Lehman in the season opener for both squads. Centenary was playing its first ever games on campus as construction of Our Diamond of Dreams was completed in the fall. The Cyclones trailed 7-0 in game one and rallied for the 11-7 victory. In game two, the Cyclones jumped out to an early lead, only to see the Lightning come back and tie the game but Centenary tacked on three late runs for the 9-6 win. "We've been anxiously awaiting this day for years," said head coach Scott Kushner. "The weeks leading up to Opening Day have been amazing with so many well-wishers – including dozens of former players – reaching out to support us. Yesterday, we were fortunate to get a visit from one of the greatest Cyclones ever, Ryan Caparoni ('15), who delivered an emotional pep talk to the team about making the most of their opportunities and to never stop competing."

Centenary (La.) opened play in the Millsaps Invitational with a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Edgewood Eagles at Twenty Field. Kyle Wise paced a 17-hit Viking attack, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four driven in.

A nine-run fourth keyed a 10-7 non-league Shenandoah  victory over Lebanon Valley at chilly Bridgeforth Field.  After falling behind 4-0 as LVC (0-1) scored two runs in the first and two in the fourth off of SU starter Calvin Pastel, the Hornets (3-0) erupted for nine runs on nine hits and one Flying Dutchmen error.

Leading by a 2-1 score in the bottom of the eighth inning, junior shortstop Jason Volpicelli scored on a wild pitch to add an insurance run, before sophomore first baseman Brian Wickman singled in another run. A dropped fall ball by the Keystone left fielder and a misplayed grounder by the center fielder opened the flood gates to five more W&L runs, leaving the Generals ahead, 9-1, entering the top of the ninth.
