NEWARK, NJ - Rutgers University-Newark has named Conor Kortmann, the former assistant baseball coach at Babson College, head coach of the Scarlet Raiders baseball team.

Kortmann has a strong track record as a baseball coach, helping Babson College to three-straight NEWMAC regular season titles from 2017-19 and consecutive conference championships in 2017 and 2018.

"Conor is a great fit for our program here at Rutgers University-Newark, I truly believe he'll help us continue the success we've had," said Athletic Director Mark Griffin. "In a robust applicant pool, he stood out among all of them with his understanding of the game and his plan to bring the same championship caliber mindset he had at Babson to Rutgers University-Newark."

Before returning to Babson College in a coaching capacity, Kortmann spent time with the Boston Red Sox as a Video Ops/Player Development Intern. There he worked with the coaches, players, and front office personnel on all aspects of the Minor League Baseball program.

"I am honored to be joining Rutgers-Newark University in leading the baseball program as Head Coach," said Kortmann. "I want to thank Athletic Director Mark Griffin, Senior Vice Chancellor Corlisse Thomas, Associate Athletic Director Mary Stadelmann, and the search committee for putting their trust in me, and I also want to thank Babson Head Coach Matt Noone, Assistant Coach Bruce Ginsberg, Athletic Director Mike Lynch, the entire Athletic Department at Babson College, and all the players in the Babson Baseball program for helping me grow as a person and coach and preparing me for this role."

Kortmann continued to say, "It is with great pride that I come back to my home state of NJ to lead Rutgers-Newark Baseball. Rutgers-Newark is a University and program on the rise. The combination of a Rutgers University degree, the biggest job market in the world, NYC just 10 miles away, and the core foundation of players already in place, makes Rutgers-Newark Baseball a unique place that I look forward to leading and working towards continued success."

Kortmann spent seven seasons with Babson College and had tremendous success during his tenure. Before taking on a coaching role, Kortmann played for Babson College where he served as team captain as a senior, started 108 of 116 games while posting a .314 career batting average with 27 extra-base hits, 61 runs scored and 67 runs batted in for the Green and White from 2010-13.

Kortmann, whose sister was a four-year member of the Babson softball program and whose father has spent the last 26 years as the head softball coach at LIU Brooklyn, earned his MBA from the College in 2018. In addition to his work with the baseball program, he also has served as equipment room manager, coordinator of intramurals and as an athletics communications assistant during his time at Babson.
