Salisbury shows no rust in opener

The University of Dallas earned their first win of the season as they split a set with LeTourneau. LeTourneau won the opener 8-2 and Univ of Dallas took the nightcap 6-1.

The two ranked teams on the field today, Salisbury and Adrian, rolled to wins on Wednesday. The University of Dallas and Illinois College earned their first wins of the season as they both started the season with a short opening losing streak.

Playing for the first time in just shy of a year, the eighth-ranked Salisbury showed no signs of rust, thrashing the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins, 22-4, at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium. Clayton Dwyer (1-0) earned the win for the Sea Gulls out of the bullpen, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings of two-run, two-hit ball. Justin Meekins ran wild from the leadoff slot, going 1-for-4 with three runs, three stolen bases and an RBI. Jimmy Adkins finished 2-for-6 with three runs and an RBI at the plate and also made his first pitching appearance since 2019, tossing a scoreless eighth inning.

Roanoke hosted Southern Virginia for a doubleheader at
Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium on Wednesday. Game
one would see the Maroons offense exploded for 16 runs
as RC cruised to the 16-3 seven inning win. Game two
was a come from behind win for Roanoke as the home
team got a pair of runs in the fourth followed by two
more in the sixth for the 5-3 victory.

Sophomore Jay Beavers had two hits and scored two runs, including what proved to be the game-winning run in the seventh inning, to lead Hampden-Sydney to a 3-1 home-opening and non-conference baseball victory past Christopher Newport on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. Sophomore Owen Tappy gained the pitching win in relief, while classmate Russell Bowles earned a save for the host Tigers (2-1), who were playing their first home game in 361 days against the visiting Captains (1-1).

The Illinois College Blueboys baseball team earned their first win of the season against the Eureka College Red Devils with a final score of 16-6. After a run by the Red Devils in the top of the second inning, the Blueboys would take control of the game. The team was able to put up six runs in the bottom of the second to take the dominate lead over Eureka. The night for the Blueboys just got better from there as they were able to explode offensively in the fifth inning to jump ahead 13-2 over Eureka. The lead would prove to be too much to overcome for the Red Devils and Illinois College would earn the win with a final of 16-6. Griffin King would come away with the pitching win totaling four strikeouts while only allowing six hits through six innings. Peyton Phillis, James Marcinkowski, and Caleb Uselton led the team offensively each totaling four hits on the day.

Greensboro's Jacob Rodriguez posted a three-for-three effort at the plated and scored the game-winning run as the Pride claimed a Wednesday evening non-conference victory over USA South Athletic Conference member Pfeiffer, 6-5, in ten innings. Rodriguez bolstered the Pride (4-2) at the plate twice on the afternoon in his three-for-three effort. Rodriguez sparked the Pride's two-run rally in the top of the fourth inning with a single to center field to post Greensboro's second run of the contest. Rodriguez drove in one more run in the top of the seventh inning as he faced two outs with runners on first and second base. The Pride drew three consecutive walks with two outs in the top of the tenth frame to load the bases. With Hunter Curtis at the plate, Josh Topper threw a wild pitch that brought Rodriguez home to give the Pride the advantage.

William Peace defeated Averett with a 6-0 victory, with pitcher Philip Berger shutting out the Cougars in 6 innings. The first inning of the game went scoreless as both pitchers, Philip Berger and David Asbill, battled it out. An advance from Alec Seaton would see Logan Barbour score on a balk. Soon after a hit from Nathan Holt would see the Pacer's Alec Seaton and Patrick Rogan cross home plate to make the score 3-0. Nathan Holt then scored on a throw making it to plate to give the Pacers a 4-0 advantage. Tyshawn Barrett would score on an error in the top of the 5th inning to bring the score to 5-0. Patrick Rogan would later score off of a fielding error later in the 8th inning. This would be the final scoring opportunity in the game to clinch the 6-0 win. Warren Gay, Austin Padgett, and Peyton Howard would each pitch an inning of scoreless baseball after pitcher Philip Berger completed 6 innings without allowing a run. All four Pacer pitchers would keep the Cougars off the scoreboard.
