D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its tenth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the third Team of the Week of the 2021 season.

Games of March 8-14, 2021

 Jack Hollinshead, Sr., Wittenberg

Hollinshead has anchored the Tiger line-up through the first five games of the season, recording a .400 average in 20 at-bats. The senior catcher launched three home runs in the opening week of action, including one against NCAA DI Akron, tallying 10 RBI's to start the 2021 campaign.

1B  Jeremy Colon, Fr., Hardin-Simmons

Colon had a monster day at the plate going 5-for-6 (.833) with three doubles and a home run (1.833 slugging percentage). He drove in five runs and scored five times in a doubleheader sweep of Schreiner.

2B  Colby Martin, Fr., Shenandoah

Martin had multiple hits in three of the four games last week, batting .538 (7-for-13).  He slugged .846 (two doubles and a triple) while scorinf seven times and driving in eight

SS  Thomas Carpenter, So. DeSales

Carpenter was an RBI machine this week, driving in 12 runs in three games. He did this batting .500 (7-for-14) with four extra-base hits (two doubles, triple and home run) for a 1.00 slugging percentage. He scored seven times and stole a base.

3B  Troy Emert, Fr., Mt. Aloysius

Emert helped the Mounties to a 3-1 start batting .667 (4-for-6) and slugging 1.333. In a doubleheader victory at Mary Baldwin  he reached base in all five plate appearances in the opener, swiping a bag in each game. He leads the Mounties with six RBIs on the season. Emert scored three runs.

OF  Zach Boyd, Jr., Marietta

Boyd had multiple hits in all four games and multiple RBI in three of those games. From the clean-up slot, he batted .643 (9-for-14) with three doubles. He was responsible for 15 runs on the weekend, scoring seven and driving in eight.

OF  Philip Mahlik, Jr., Kean

Mahlik led off the season with a bang, batting .714 (10-for-14) with six RBI and three runs. He had three extra base hits (double, triple and an inside the park home run) as he helped Kean to a 3-1 record this weekend.

OF  Daniel Youngblood, Sr., Fontbonne

Youngblood batted a team-high .647 on the week (11-for-17), hitting two homers, including a grand slam and brought home a team-high 12 RBI.He scored seven runs and stole two bases.

DH  Kyle McLaughlin, Fr., Belhaven

McLaughlin batted .818 (9-for-11) in three games for the Blazers. With a double, triple and home run, slugged 1.363. He scored five runs and drove in seven.

SP  Pierce Banks, Sr.,  Adrian

Banks hurled a combined shutout over No. 3-ranked North Central (Illinois), 4-0, giving Bulldogs head coach Craig Rainey '89 his 700th career victory at the school. Banks finished with nine strikeouts in seven innings of work. He allowed just two hits and a walk, and just one runner reached second base. He also had two assists.

SP Ryan Behling, Jr., North Central (Ill.)

In only his second collegiate start, Behling completed a nine-inning no-hitter against Spalding on Sunday, allowing just two walks and two hit by pitches while striking out six. Only one out was recorded out of the infield, an eighth-inning flyout to center field.

SP  Rj Kuruts, Sr., St. John Fisher

Senior right-hander Kuruts was untouchable last week for the St. John Fisher College Cardinals as the Forest City native was part of a combined no-hitter against Clarkson on Tuesday. Kuruts got the start and allowed just one walk over six innings while striking out a career-high 13 batters in all. In all, Kuruts retired 19 of 20 batters faced.

SP Matt Mulhearn, Sr., Webster

In his lone start of the week, the 2019 All-American pitched eight scoreless innings while scattering three hits, not walking a batter and recording nine strikeouts in a 7-0 win over Westminster to open SLIAC play. With his eight innings of shutout ball, he lowered his season ERA to 0.41 and his nine strikeouts pushed his career strikeout total to 257, which is tied with Isaac Behme for tops on the school's all-time list.

RP Tucker Hrasky, Jr., Bridgewater (Va.)

Hrasky made two appearances, pitching three innings and allowing no hits. He struck out six and walked two batters. Hrasu got the save in a 4-1 over Emory & Henry. He entered in the top of the eighth with runners at second and third and two outs. After walking a batter to load the bases, Hrasky retired the next batter on a popup to get out of the jam. He struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth. Against Christopher Newport, a 6-5 loss, Hrasky pitched 1.2 innings with four Ks and one walk.
