Beddick nets 100th win with Shoremen

Chestertown, MD. – The Washington College baseball team split a home doubleheader with the Ursinus Bears on Sunday afternoon at Athey Park. The Shoremen (21-14, 7-7 Centennial Conference) collected 15 hits in the opener en route to a 12-4 victory. The visitors (11-22, 4-10 C.C.) came back to take the nightcap by a score of 4-1. The victory was the 100th for Shoreman head coach Cory Beddick in Chestertown.

Game 1, Shoremen 12, Ursinus 4
How It Happened
-The Shoremen scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Senior third baseman Joe Curtin ripped a two-out, two-run double to left field to plate sophomore first baseman Danny Sheeler(single) and senior right fielder Chris Baker (single).
- The hosts added to their lead in the third as Curtin came through again with another two-out hit to score freshman designated hitter Noah Iseman, who had doubled to left-center.
- Ursinus got a run back in the top of the fourth off freshman starter Joe Morrissey as catcher Nick Diaz doubled to right center to score center fielder Dylan Crammer.
- Washington displayed their power in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of solo blasts. Freshman catcher Mike Bukowski launched his first career homer to left field and senior left fielder Max Ruvo crushed a dinger way over the left field fence just two batters later.
- The Shoremen widened their lead to 9-1 in the fifth as they managed to score four runs on just one hit. Bukowski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, freshman center fielder Erik Risnychok (walk) scored on a wild pitch, and Baker delivered a two-out, two-run single.
- The Bears scored two runs off Morrissey in the top of the sixth as Crammer led-off with a homer to left and second baseman Solomon Griffith (single) scored on a wild pitch.
- Senior second baseman Brandon Hoffman drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth as he ripped a two-out single to score Iseman (walk, stolen base).
- The hosts put the game away with two more in the eighth to make it 12-3. Max Ruvo led-off the frame with an infield single and scored Sheeler's double to right field. Hoffman brought in Sheeler with an infield single to shortstop.

-Hoffman went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs.
-Curtin went 2-for-4 (2B) with 3 RBI
- Baker (2 RBI), Max Ruvo, Sheeler, and Bukowski (2 RBI) all added two hits each.
Pitching
-Morrissey improved to 6-2 on the season after allowing three earned runs on six hits over 6.0 innings. The right-hander fanned 10 batters and did not yield a walk.

For the Bears
Hitting
-Crammer went 2-for-4 (HR) and scored two runs.
- Right fielder Matteo Falcone (2B) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Pitching
-Joey Mullen fell to 1-4 after allowing five earned runs on nine hits over 4.0 innings.

Game 2, Ursinus 4, Shoremen 1
How It Happened
-The Bears scored a run off starter Izaiah Santiago and led the entire contest. Crammer came around to score on a one-out single through the left-side by third baseman Jared Minnichbach,
-Ursinus extended their lead to 3-0 with two more runs in the third. Minnichbach had another RBI single and right fielder Peter Balos recorded an RBI double.
-The visitors scored their final run of the game in the top of the fourth to make it 4-0. Crammer singled through the left side with one-out to plate catcher Dylan Runsdorf (lead-off single).
- The Shoremen finally broke through for a run in the bottom of the sixth off starter Casey Murphy. Curtin delivered a two-out RBI single to plate Hoffman, who had singled with one out.

For the Shoremen
Hitting
- Hoffman went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
- Curtin was 1-for-3 (walk) with an RBI
Pitching
-Santiago fell to 0-3 after allowing four earned runs on nine hits over 4.0 innings. He fanned four batters and did not allow a walk.
-Junior Jay Nesson (3.0 innings, 1 hit, 3 K's) and freshman Alex Martin (2.0 innings, 1 hit) pitched well in relief as they combined to throw five scoreless innings.

For the Bears
Hitting
-Crammer went 4-for-5 (RBI) and scored a pair of runs.
-Minnichbach was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI.
- Second baseman Jakob Cantor added a pair of hits.

Pitching
- Murphy was sensational as he threw a four-hit complete game to improve to 4-3. The right-hander fanned eight Shoremen and allowed three walks.

Notes
- Head Coach Cory Beddick recorded his 100th career victory at Washington College in game one.
- Sheeler drove in his team-high 40th run in the opener
- Curtin has 7 RBI over his last three contests and has gone 8-for-17 (.471) over his last four games to raise his average to .348.
- Morrissey recorded his fifth double-digit strikeout performance in the opener. He's now whiffed a league-high 86 batter in 60.0 innings (12.90 k/9 ratio).
- Bukowski was named the Goose Nation TV Player of the game in the opener and Nesson took the honors in the nightcap.
