DULUTH, Minn.  – Former Head Baseball Coach at the College of St. Scholastica Corey Kemp is returning as Interim Head Baseball Coach for the 2023 season, it was announced by Jessica Cherry, CSS Director of Athletics and Recreation.

"I am so excited Corey Kemp has agreed to return to lead the St. Scholastica baseball team as interim head coach," stated Cherry. "Corey continues to be a role model, an inspiration, and an ambassador for CSS. His values, commitment to excellence in academics, and passion for CSS baseball is the winning combination needed to advance our program."

Kemp is no stranger to the Saints baseball program as he was a student-athlete, assistant coach, and head coach during his time at CSS. This will mark Kemp's first time coaching in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

As the head coach from 2010 to 2019, Kemp's overall record is 313-108.

"When Jessica asked me to step in and help coach the team this spring, I didn't hesitate to accept the opportunity," Kemp said. "My family and I had already agreed that this was something I would take on because the Saints baseball program means so much to us."

After stepping down as the head baseball coach at St. Scholastica following the 2019 season, Mr. Kemp restarted his career in the classroom as an elementary teacher. He is currently teaching 5th grade at Pike Lake Elementary and was recently named Proctor Public Schools Teacher of the Year for 2023.

Kemp also volunteers his time coaching his sons' youth hockey and baseball teams in the community, while serving as the President of Lake Park Baseball and as a board member for 709 Baseball and Duluth Heights Hockey. Corey has been married to his wife, Carrie, for 16 years, and together they have two sons, ages 10 and 7.

Kemp will have assistant coaches Tim Anderson and Jake Lewis returning from last season, while several CSS baseball alums are also pitching in. Kemp adds, "the other assistant coaches that I respect and have worked with in the past were also ready and waiting to return if this opportunity came to be. It was going to be vital to have us all on board and working together for our student-athletes."

The Saints will open up the new season on Feb. 24, playing three games in Westfield, Ind.
