2023 No-hitters

LETU defeated NIAA Dillard 10-1 on Friday February 17th for the DIII season's first no-hitter. Landon Stocks and Zac Schneider combined for 10 strikeouts and allowed just three walks to complete the no-no. Stocks (1-0) picked up the win after he went the first six innings and surrendered an unearned run while striking out five and walking two. It was the first known no-hitter for LeTourneau (2-3) in the program's NCAA history dating back to 1999.

No. 10 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace knocked off Centre in a non-conference doubleheader on the Gary Wright Field inside Fishman Park on Saturday February 18th. BW (2-0) opened the day with 11-0 ho-hit win in eight innings. The season opener for the Yellow Jackets was highlighted the pitching duo of senior All-OAC right-handed pitcher Dawson Gabe and junior right-handed pitcher Kyle Maruna who combined for eight no-hit innings allowing just three walks. Gabe pitched six innings and Maruna completed the last two.

The Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats enjoyed the warm Florida sunshine on Friday March, 3rd with two record breaking games against the Knights of Martin Luther. Game two was nothing short of spectacular as freshman Nathan Mankoski threw a complete-game no hitter, the first in program history, winning 13-0. batters. His 15 strikeouts are more strikeouts than any Bobcat pitcher has had in a single game. Game two was all the freshman pitcher making his first collegiate appearance. Mankoski dazzled the Knights, sending them back to the dugout left and right. The Bobcats were one error away from a perfect game, but will gladly take the program's first no-no.

Zach Turner, Colby James and Will Marconi combined for a no-hit shutout to help Oglethorpe split a doubleheader with Hendrix Saturday  March 4th in their Southern Athletic Association opener. Hendrix won game one 13-4 before Oglethorpe bounced back with a 7-0 win in game two. The no-hitter was the first for Oglethorpe since 2018. Turner went the first four and two-third innings striking out three, James got the Stormy Petrels out of a jam in the fifth on the way to one and one-third innings, and Marconi closed the door in the seventh with a perfect frame.

Graduate righthander Matt Josselyn tossed the second perfect game in Bridgewater State as the Bears opened the 2023 season with a 4-0 victory over Rivier on Sunday March 5th. Josselyn retired all 21 batters he faced with an impressive 13 strikeouts. Only two balls left the infield, a fly out to center in the third and a fly out to right in the sixth. The game was completed in just 87 minutes. The only other perfect game in program history was tossed by Shawn Cronin in 2000.

Shane Stossel struck out 11 hitters in six innings of work and knocked in two runs and combined with Malachi Duka to give Lebanon Valley a 3-0 victory in a combined no-hitter over Heidelberg in the first game of the team's spring break trip to Port Charlotte on Monday, March 6th. Stossel threw 90 pitches and struck out 11 hitters. He was one shy of his school record for strikeouts in a game. The junior also had a two-RBI double. Duka struck out two while facing 11 batters. He earned his first career save.

Grove City College junior pitcher Nick Guidas fired a nine-inning perfect game Thursday March 9th to help lead the Wolverines to a 6-0 win over Illinois College in non-conference action at Northeast Regional Park. The 6-foot-2 southpaw struck out a career-high 14 men and needed only 105 pitches to retire all 27 batters. He struck out eight of the last nine batters, striking out the side in both the seventh and ninth innings. Guidas threw 76 strikes and only 29 balls.

Sophomore Rylan Wade closed the day for RPI with a statement, tossing five no-hit innings in a 3-0 victory in game two of a doubleheader with Colby on March 11th. The day belonged to Wade, as he kept the Mules at bay through the game's five innings before it was called due to darkness. Wade struck out five while facing just two batters over the minimum, surrendering just two walks to Colby's Drew Miller and Patrick McConnell.

Nick Danbrowney, Dominick Ciani, and James Pazdera combined to throw a no hit game for Ramapo as the Roadrunners defeated Westminster (Pa.) 5-0 on Sunday March 12th. Danbrowney struck out 11 over seven innings of work with just two walks. Ciani worked the eighth inning and struck out two while Pazdera struck out one in the ninth to close out the game as Ramapo combined for the first no-hitter since the 2018 season.

Three Salve Regina pitchers combined to no-hit Springfield, 16-0, on Tuesday March 14th. Sean Mulligan, Brody Valentine and Eddie Hardiman combined on 7-inning no hitter. Mulligan (4 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 1 BB; 3 K) earned the win and was assited in the no-no by Valentine (2 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 1 BB; 2 K) and Hardiman (1 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 0 BB; 0 K).

Behind seven different pitchers who combined for 11 strikeouts and 13 hits on the offensive side of the ball, Elmira was able to reach a historical program mark on Thursday afternoon, tossing the first no-hitter in program history. The Soaring Eagles combined for 9-inning no-hitter in a 13-0 win over Penn State-Wilkes Barre. The Soaring Eagles, who were two strikeouts shy of setting a new program record, received a pair of innings a piece from Jack Finnerty (2 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 0 BB; 3 K), Jarek Podest (2 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 2 BB; 2 K) before receiving an inning a piece from Carter Wisley (1 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 0 BB; 0 K), Brennan Goin (1 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 1 BB; 0 K), Matthew Schultz (1 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 0 BB; 1 K), Justin Hyde (1 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 0 BB; 3 K), andf Kyle Tubbs (1 IP; 0 H; 0 R; 0 BB; 2 K)

Hope won their opener, 6-0 from Lawrence, behind a gem by O'Gorham, a junior from Champaign, Illinois on Saturday March 18th. Lawrence came back to take the nightcap, 5-2. O'Gorham, who entered the game with an 8.78 earned run average in his first three appearances of the season, went the distance to pitch the 11th no-hitter in school history and the first complete-game no-no since Derek Fairchild threw a no-hitter in 2009 against Albion College. The last no-hitter by the Dutchmen was a combined no-no by Sean Hoey, Matt Plaehn, Shane Hykin, Matt Blesch and Ryan Sullivan against Grace Christian University last season. O'Gorham walked five batters and struck out four in the contest while throwing 89 pitches. The most serious threat against him came in the top of the third when Lawrence put two runners on base on walks. But O'Gorham got a line out to end the inning.

Sophomore right-hander Jackson Teer joined an elite list in the history of Trinity (Texas) Baseball Saturday, March 18th, afternoon as the ninth player all-time to post a complete-game no-hitter—the first since the 2017 season—to push the team toward a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series sweep of Austin College. A second-inning walk for Austin's Asher Thompson would end up being the difference between a no-hitter and a perfect game for Teer in Saturday's opener, though the free pass came after Trinity had already mounted a three-run lead.

UW-Eau Claire pitcher Matt Moore made history by throwing a no-hitter in a 7-0 victory over Bard on Tuesday March 21st at the RussMatt Invitational. Moore kept the Raptors out of the hit column in a nine-inning complete game to earn the first no-hitter since the baseball program's reinstatement in 2021. Moore was dominant from the start, retiring the first seven batters he faced. The right-hander only allowed base runners on walks and hit by pitches, but always worked around the danger without allowing a run — or a hit. The junior struck out 10 batters and walked two. Seven of his 10 strikeouts came across the final five innings of the game. He faced 33 batters across nine innings.

Dylan Beers threw a no-hitter in the opener and Mat Bruno drove in a combined 10 runs over two games as Cortland opened its SUNYAC schedule with a sweep of visiting Oswego. Beers tossed the 21st no-hitter in program history and the first since Jake Casey versus Canton in 2018. He struck out 12 batters and came within one batter of throwing a perfect game. The only runner he allowed was Greg Carullo one-out walk in the top of the sixth inning.

UMass-Dartmouth Sophmore Adam Maher threw a no-hitter in game two on Friday March 24th to help lift Corsairs to a doubleheader sweep of Western Connecticut State. In game two, the Corsairs showed their strength on the defensive end, as well as offensively. Maher put on a sensational performance on the mound, pitching all seven innings without allowing a single hit. Maher allowed no hits and no runs while striking out 10 of the 23 batters he faced. Maher is now 2-0 for the season after the no-hitter.

Freshman RHP Aidan Reichek threw a no-hitter in game two of Centenary's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday against the University of Dallas Crusaders, an 18-0 run-rule victory, at Shehee Stadium. The Diamond Gents (10-6, 3-2 SCAC) fell 11-4 in game one to the Crusaders (11-10, 2-3 SCAC) and took their frustrations out in the second game, scoring a season high in runs on 18 hits as the rookie Reicheck shined. The no-hitter is the first thrown since Matthew Devillier held Austin hitless on April 20, 2018 at home. Reichek and Devillier's no-hitters are the only two in the division III era (2012-present) in program history.

UW-La Crosse earned a doubleheader sweep over UW-Platteville Monday April 3rd at Prospect Meadows Sports Complex. The Eagles took the opener, 10-0 in seven innings and the nightcap, 6-1. Tyler Schmitt (3-0) earned the win in the opener, throwing the eighth no-hitter in school history. He went 7.0 innings, allowing five walks while striking out seven. Schmitt retired the first nine batters of the game. UW-Platteville loaded the bases on three walks in the bottom of the sixth, but Schmitt got Mitchell McLaughlin to ground into an inning ending double play. Schmitt struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh, including Mitchell Pomeroy for the final out of the game.

As John Carroll celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of the baseball program Blue Streak pitcher Matthew Aukerman throw a no-hitter in the 14-0 victory in Game 1. It marked only the third time the feat had been accomplished, and first since Steve Viola did it against Hiram in 1986. The senior only allowed two base runners all game, both on walks, and struck out six in the process. "It felt really good," Aukerman said after his no-hitter. "Honestly, I didn't have my best stuff today, but I had an awesome defense behind me. That definitely helped me all game, and thankfully I was just able to go out and give us a good game when we needed it."

Westfield State junior pitcher Ryan Donahue tossed the Owls seventh no hitter in program history to lead Westfield to a 3-0 game one victory, then the Owls rallied from three runs down to eventually walk off Mass. Maritime 7-6 in game two to sweep the twin-bill set on Saturday afternoon from Hagan Field in Westfield, Mass. Donahue (W, 2-2) was sharp from the start of the contest, finishing with a complete game shutout with ten strikeouts and three walks. For Westfield, it was the first no hitter since 2022 where the Owls used three separate arms to no hit Johnson & Wales in Davenport, Fla. Individually, it is the first time since 2019 that a single Owls pitcher fired a no hitter since John Gegetskas did so against Framingham State in the conference semifinals.

Nick Choate was in complete command from the first pitch, striking out a career-high 13 en route to a 7-0 complete game no-hitter on Saturday April 22nd. The visiting Falcons only had two runners get as far as second base all game.

Despite giving up a run, the Saints pitchers combined for a no-hitter in the St. Lawrence University baseball team's 9-1 win over Plattsburgh on Tuesday April 25th at Tom Fay Field. Christian Mingione, who started on the hill, earned the win going five innings of no hits, no earned run baseball. He struck out one batter in his five innings. Danny Collins threw the next one and two-thirds striking out two before Fosberg came in to close the seventh. Gannon was effective in his first appearance as a pitcher striking out two in his inning of work. Brendan Karadenes finished of the combined no-hitter with an inning of hitless pitching in the ninth.

Ryan Green stole the show for Concordia Wisconsin on April 29th in a sweep of Lakeland, He threw a complete game no-hitter in game one. In the win, Green faced 22 total batters, striking out four. The no-hitter is the first for CUW baseball since March 12th, 2022, when the Falcons beat Bethany Lutheran 5-0. With the win, Ryan Green's record on the season improves to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

After celebrating their seniors on Saturday April 29th, Marymount went on to take game one 5-0, with sophomore Andrew Schaeb blanking the Cavaliers in the hit column. A tight game in the nightcap went Cabrini's way, giving Marymount the split on the day, moving to 20-15 overall, 10-4 in AEC play. Schaeb went the distance in no-hit fashion in game one, striking out eight Cavaliers to earn his fifth win on the season. This is the second no-hitter in Marymount baseball history, first by a single pitcher.

Backed by a no-hitter from Charlie Fleming and a 4-for-4 effort from Eric Colaco, the No. 11 Denison earned a 14-0 win in game one over Waynesburg University on Saturday Mak 6th at the Big Red Baseball Field. Fleming (9-1) recorded 15 straight outs after walking the first batter of the game and worked around back-to-back walks to start off the sixth inning as he got a 6-4-3 double play followed by a flyout to right field. In the end, Fleming finished with seven 1-2-3 innings and struck out 10 batters en route to his first-career no-hitter. It was the third no-hitter in program history, joining Cam Cowden (April 24, 2004) and Drew Shamrock (April 16, 2005).
