Stevens drops William Paterson on Wednesday

Bridgewater (Va.) kicked off its spring break trip down in Myrtle Beach, S.C. defeating Cabrini in two seven inning games 6-2 and 20-18.

Sophomore Erik Sibbach picked up his third win of the season, while graduate student Michael Reyes recorded three hits and two RBI, as the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team beat William Paterson 3-2 Wednesday afternoon. The game was rescheduled from February 18. Sibbach (3-0) was once again solid for the Ducks. He pitched five innings and picked up nine strikeouts, bringing his season total to 27. He allowed two runs (unearned) on four hits. Senior Axel Johnson earned his second save of the year, pitching 0.2 innings and striking out one. He came in with a runner in scoring position in the ninth. The Ducks open up the season 4-0 for the first time since 2021. The Ducks defeated William Paterson for the second time this year, winning 3-1 last Thursday. The Ducks also start 2-0 on the road. With the win, Stevens improves to 6-16-1 against the Pioneers, as the Ducks have won two-straight against the Pioneers. William Paterson dropped their fourth-straight game of the season, falling to 1-4.

Rose-Hulman team brought home an 8-7 win over Moravian on Wednesday in a 10-inning thriller. After the Greyhounds retook the lead in the 7th, Rose-Hulman again battled back with two more runs to take a 7-6 lead. Moravian would tie the game at 7 with a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to send it to extras, but Tyler Otroszko would call game in the tenth with a triple over the right fielder's head and scoring the game-winning run on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the inning, Otroszko would make a running catch in foul ground before barreling into the fence for the final out of the game. The bottom of the order came up huge for the Fightin' Engineers as Colton Brown, Otroszko, and Mark Serdinak would all add two hits a piece. Brown also contributed three RBIs, and Kade Kline added 2 RBIs. On the mound, Schuyler Wilcox picked up his second win of the season, pitching the final three innings of the game with just one run allowed. Brady Strawmyer pitched four innings strong in the start with just two earned runs allowed and 6 strikeouts, and Brad Nardi recorded three strikeouts in 2.2 innings in relief.

Ramapo opened the 2024 season with a 21-5 non-conference win over Centenary (N.J.).  Ramapo struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning when Zach Bailey belted a two-run home run which also plated Dominic Ciani for a quick 2-0 lead. The Cyclones added one in the bottom half of the inning before Ramapo scored six runs in the second. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by John Higgins. Centenary added a single run in the third before Ramapo added one in the fifth, a solo home run from Sean Donaghue; and three in the sixth for a 12-2 The Cyclones put one on the board in the bottom half of the inning before Ramapo exploded for nine in the top of the eighth while Centenary scored two in the bottom half of the inning. Ramapo's big inning was highlighted by a grand slam from Jesse Swartout. Ramapo collected 18 hits in their season opener as they were led by Donaghue who finished 3-4 with three runs scored and one RBI while Higgins finished 3-6 with three RBI and two runs scored. Swartout was perfect at the plate, 2-2 with two runs scored and a team high four RBI. Jack Martin (1-0) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners as he struck out three, walked two and scattered three hits over five innings of work.

Hanover (2-2) erased a 9-2 deficit on Wednesday afternoon to defeat non-conference foe Methodist, 13-12. Senior Tj Laplane paced the comeback as he turned in an impressive performance at the dish going 2-for-5 with three RBI. Junior Reid Douglas added a home run while senior Connor Farnsley recorded the games only triple. After Methodist hung a five run fourth inning, the Panthers went to work. Hanover was able to plate a run following a single by senior Tj Laplante before a Perkins hard hit ball to second and a Danneman sacrifice fly pulled HC within 9-5. Hanover flipped the script in their favor in the bottom of the fifth inning as a junior Andrew Oesterling single scored Roudebush before Laplante connected for an RBI that pulled the Panthers within 10-8. Danneman added the clutch double that propelled Hanover to their first lead of the afternoon, 11-10. Junior Reid Douglas homered for the Panthers in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Blue and Red pushed their lead to 13-10. Senior Matthew Alter got the start for the Panthers throwing 3.1 innings. Senior Wyatt Prather recorded his first win of the season as he came in and relief allowing just three runs on four hits. Junior Jaden Siemer captured the save with 1.2 innings and a strikeout.

State rivals Birmingham-Southern and Huntingdon College battled in a midweek match up at Striplin Field with BSC run-ruling Huntingdon 14-4 in eight innings. Huntingdon struck first and earned a 4-0 lead through three innings. Birmingham-Southern got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third thanks to an Andrew Dutton hit-by-pitch and RBI single for Ian Hancock. BSC found more success at the plate in the fourth inning after a lead-off walk for Shane Nelson and single for Ty Truett. Grant Morgan also walked, loading up the bases for Eli Steadman who delivered a two RBI single, closing the deficit to 4-3. Andrew Dutton kept the offensive momentum with with a 3 RBI long ball over the right field wall, his second home run of the season, earning a 6-4 Panther lead. The Panthers remained consistent at the plate, putting up another four runs to end the game early. BSC pitched by committee for the match up, each arm handling two innings. Dominick Scalese earned the win throwing his two innings with no earned runs and just two hits. Trip Barron also carried weight on the mound, throwing an impressive four strikeouts in his two shutout innings. Freshman pitcher Tams Mullins closed the game where he dominated the Hawks, earning 3 strikeouts and retiring 6 straight batters.

In a high-scoring affair on Wednesday afternoon, Eastern came out on top in a 13-9 win over John Jay College on its third day at Ripken Experience. The Eagles built a 9-1 lead in the first four innings and held off a furious Bloodhounds rally over the final five to secure their third victory of the season. Both teams combined for a remarkable 30 hits, with Eastern recording 17. Seven of those knocks were for extra bases, and eight different Eagles finished with a least one hit. Sophomore Justin DiCesare led the way with four hits, including a double, in five at-bats, to go along with a run scored and one RBI. First-year outfielder Trent Macdougall and third basemen Robert Del Buono also recorded strong days at the plate as the duo combined for six hits, five runs scored, and four RBI. It was the first three-hit, two-RBI performances of their collegiate careers. Second baseman Evan Barks continued his red-hot tear with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, while designated hitter Sean Cottrell collected his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field in the eighth inning. Catch Jason Hall finished 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI, while outfielder Brock Langlotz added a double.

Ferrum picked up a non-conference win over Vermont State Lyndon, winning 12-2 at Panther Field in seven and a third innings. Vermont State got on the scoreboard first with a run in the first inning when TJ Santaw scored on a fielding error. Ferrum would score four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead, one when Davis Yeaman was struck by a pitch with the bases loaded, two on Clayton Michael's RBI single to left field and one on a Bryce Thacker saf fly to right field. After the Hornets scored a run in the top of the fourth on Santaw's sac fly to right, the Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to 9-2 Ferrum scored three more to end the game by the 10-run rule.

Vermont State University Castleton fell to Louisiana Christian Wednesday evening, 22-12. VTSU Castleton (0-6) fell to LCU (12-3) 22-12 in Pineville, La. Wednesday night. Tyler McLain (1-5) had four RBI's, Hunter Perkins and Kannon Dush combined for six runs and Alex Bingham (2-5) collected multiple hits in the match up. Wednesday night's contest became a shootout fast. With three doubles, LCU took back the lead with three doubles and four runs to bring the score to 7-6. McLain continued to make noise on bat, bringing in two more runners to tie the game up at 9-9 halfway through the contest. The Wildcats turned their game up a notch with 13 runs in the final two innings of plays to finish with 14 hits and taking the win 22-12 through seven innings.
