The Division III World Series has gotten underway with a bang, with two extra-inning games and three games decided by a total of four runs to start the weekend. Game four was a sloppy affair where errors and free pases were easy to come by.

Jake Glauser walked in the tenth inning and scored on a Forrest Chadwick single to give Southern Maine a 2-1 win over Millsaps in the opening game. Check out the game story and video from both postgame news conferences.

Linfield survived a huge rally by Ithaca to win 8-6 and advance into the winners' bracket. And UW-Stevens Point rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the eighth inning to tie, then got a walk-off homer from freshman Bryton Guckenberg in the bottom of the 10th to end it.

Kean broke the game open with six runs in the sixth and snapped its six-game losing streak in the Division III World Series by defeating Webster 14-8 in the final game of the day. The first seven batters reached base in the inning, which saw 10 batters come to the plate against three pitchers for the Gorloks (36-11). The Cougars had two doubles, a walk and took advantage of an error in taking a 9-3 lead. Freshman first baseman Salvatore Taormina provided the big blow with a two-run double. Kean will face UW-Stevens Point on Saturday night in the final game of the day. Webster moves to the losers’ bracket, where it will face Manchester.
